Why does my crush stare at me?

So this guy I have a crush on will stare at me a lot like when I walk past him, but other times, like during class when we work in small groups, he won't even look at me. He'll talk to me and use my name, but his eyes won't meet mine. It's really hard to deal with because I just want to work with him and get my school work done with. He's always really nice to me outside of class when we see each other in passing and talk for a few minutes, but it's like once we're in class, he's cold.

Any ideas? I mean, it's not like I'm a terribly attractive person (I just have weird blue hair, so that might be part of it)...?
