Why do some women wear so much perfume?

at work today I walked into a room the smell of perfume was so strong it was nauseating.

People's noses are really cool in the sense that if an odor is present for a period of time their brain tunes it out.

When you wear the same perfume for weeks/months/years on end you can no longer smell it, unless you put on more and more.

Some people don't realize this and think they should perfume to their noses, rather than a number of spritzes rule. (Mine is 3, any more than 3 spritzes and I'd overpower people, but I also have a light perfume) I also rotate perfumes so I can still kind of smell them.

I used to wear Beautiful by Estee Lauder and a lot of people commended that it smells so nice on me.But I stopped wearing it after I noticed that some children are allergic to it and kept sneezing.So the last time I wore perfume was 15 years ago.Now I am using Ginvera's body shampoo made of bird's nest that really smells so nice like perfume and the children have no problem with it. :)

Sometimes it could be to cover body odor or because they need to get a whiff of it every now and the. When they move, but I would say its better than walking in and smellin BO... Though I do agree, sometimes too much can give a rather nauseating affect to others, so maybe minus several sprays and it'd be better.

this situation totally reminds me of one of the lady that works where I work. She wears some very strong perfume, which doesn't smell good at all and make me vomit every time I smell it! I have no idea why they would wear so much perfume; but I wish someone told them to stop doing it!

I think some women think it makes them more attractive and that men like it. They may not realize that a little bit can go a long way. Do you work with mostly women your age, or older women?

I've personally noticed that some older women wear more perfume and you can smell it from the next room. Generation thing I think. I've also run into this with men and cologne though.

Some girls forget that they start to get used to their smell and then they assume they need more because they can't smell the perfume they already put on. It's a common mistake guys also make sometimes.

I think the same thing about cologne. I prefer that guys NOT wear cologne, it gives me a headache and doesn't smell good to me.

i don't wear cologne, I like some colognes but I don't know the names of them. my deodorant works well enough as well as my body wash. I always get compliments on my smell from girls.

Maybe your nose is sensitive? OR you just didn't like the smell, therefore found it powerful.
