Anonymous(30-35)+1 yI didn't vote. If there had been an option of "they are equally good" then I would have clicked that one.
I don't think it's a gender thing, both genders are capable of being good!
That's like saying "men are better parents than women" or "women are more practical than men" People have strengths and weaknesses!
Men are becoming more open minded about cooking certainly. And before people think "wtf" take my grandfathers generation. He went out to work, and to the war, and the woman stayed at home, cooked, and cleaned and brought the children up. That's the way it was. And as a result, a lot of men of his generation cannot cook or know the essentials.
Certainly in my family my grandfather cannot cook, my dad can cook but not bake, my mum can cook but her speciality is baking cakes, I can cook and bake, and my brothers can cook but they cook to their tastes and cannot expand their skills to new territory of something someone else might cook. My dad and I can.
So yeah what I'm saying is...really depends on the person and how practiced they are.15 Reply
Asker+1 yMy father could not cook at all and my mother was a good cook if she wasn't drunk. Science has discovered though that men and women do have different levels of talent with certain spatial things. Cooking is actually one of them but tradition has reversed things a bit.
Opinion Owner+1 yIn my experience it's been equal. Me and my dad are equally as good, my brothers competent but not great. I taught my partner to cook (his father can't even do toast) and his mum cooks but I don't like her food personally. It's bland to me. So really to me, it's equal, but I have seen generation effects it.
Asker+1 y:P My dad couldn't do toast either
Opinion Owner+1 y:) I think some of it depends on the oven of course.. I use a traditional gas oven than heats the water (Aga oven) which is slower than the modern and electric ovens. I have a kind of..lazy style? I make my own recipes and things and I just pootle around and throw things in etc. I find using modern ovens much harder, it's too sensitive!
Asker+1 yI use a gas stove and oven. It cooks better than electric

Because in my culture, or let's say at least in my family,
women are supposed to learn how to cook,
so their moms teach them cooking when they are young (maybe 9-11 year old).
If the man's mom discovered that his girl can't cook,
she will start talking about her and bother her all the time.
That's why I am learning. lol xD
It's a very important point in the girl that she should know how to cook,
she should be clean and tidy.
If someone told a girl that her room, for example, is dirty or messy,..
this's considered a big insult for her. xD
So yeah in my family, men suck in cooking;
because they aren't supposed to learn it.
While women are way better in it.
But still some men like to learn and they enjoy it,
so they are getting better. ^-^125 Reply
Asker+1 yThat sure looks great and I would surprise you with cooking
Asker+1 yI can make anything and make it well :)
Asker+1 yDo you mean you will be happy? :)

I'm not your wife haha. xD
I mean I think it would be a good idea if she cooks on a day and you cook on the other day if you really have the skill. It's like a way of cooperation and learning these skills from each other too.^-^
But if it comes to me, I think I wouldn't allow him to cook lol..
I feel it's my role to prepare good meals from him, but if he enjoys cooking I won't mind. ^^
Asker+1 yWell you might say that now but after I cook you a few meals you would be crazy for my food :)
Asker+1 yHey...stranger things have happened :)
Asker+1 yWe landed on the moon so who knows? Maybe in 22 years I will be makin you a sandwich. :P:P:P
Asker+1 yI am just being silly
Asker+1 yYou are welcome Miss Nice girl :)
Asker+1 yIt is because of some girls. Some girls also are stalking me a bit. I initially ask most of my questions anon
Asker+1 yOh they stalk me no matter what I do :P
Asker+1 yProbably true. I wish I could talk to you more. You are wise beyond your years?
+1 yI can't really vote on this one. I don't think it's a men or women thing. Some women burn water and some can turn water into wine. Same for guys.
There are definitely more men who are cooking now, and with all those chef shows, it's actually starting to look like a male thing to do. It's definitely a la mode...no pun intended.
Most of us who have great examples will learn how to do it well enough...but there are some of us that just have a special skill for it. Not about gender, more about passion.
My husband kicks my ass in the kitchen, but still, for the sake of the poll, I chose A.21 Reply
Asker+1 y:P "a la mode"
Men have always been better cooks... The large majority of the worlds great chefs are men. There are good amount of men that know how to cook well that are normal guys, but many women cook as a more routine task in the household. I'd guess this is due to women usually having a larger role in nurturing the children. Kids want something to eat so they ask mom. Mom takes off early for work to pick up the kids from school, so mom is around the house to get dinner ready. Dad usually works late, so the kids would have ants in their pants waiting to eat if they had to sit around and wait for him to come home.

Well I can say the same thing about most girls I meet. They don't know how to make anything, but me on the other hand I know quit a lot. lol I was watching some cooking things with someone yesterday and I knew what they were making before they said it based on the ingredients... I explained that it was very basic in french cooking to them when they looked at me like I was psychic. =P
- +1 y
True. However, your point about men have always been better cooks is like saying majority of the important figures in the history are men. It contains half truths. :P
Asker+1 yYea most of the women that I have dated could not cook. I am the one who is always cooking. I prefer it and am better at it.

I'd like for a girl to be at least competent and be able to make a few good dishes well. I don't want to cook all the time. If she's at least got some common sense I can teach her and cook with her. When you're cooking for yourself it's no big deal. If you have to cook for someone else all the time, it can become tiring and you just want some help/to split the load.
Asker+1 yYea I think that would make for an easier life with a female
1.9K opinions shared on Other topic. Due to the chaging of times, it is quite likely that many men have gotten better at the art of cooking and because women aren't "required" to cook anymore hence some of them have abandoned to art completely, so yes women in general have probably gotten worse at cooking and men in general have gotten better than before. But then again, most of the top chefs in the world have been male, so it probably isn't that men suck at cooking by some default law, it's just that most men have not bothered to learn how to cook because of social etiquette of the time and the availability of fast food restaurants.

Anonymous(30-35)+1 ynot the women in my family... I grew up on homecooked food, and I know how to cook basically anything... a lot of my friends were raised on pre made food or fast food, and don't even know how to boil water! lol...
I agree men are getting better... but that's because they are being forced to because all the new crappy women cooks of this fast food generation. but still as a whole I think there are more women cooks that are good at cooking.11 Reply
Asker+1 yI somewhat agree
i don't know but from where I'm from women are the one who are expected to cook so as far as my culture is concerned we cannot tell but I have to admit I suck at it hehe :) (5 stars)

Although in my family its "normal" that the wife cooks, my dad can cook amazing things too so.15 Reply

Anonymous(30-35)+1 yI don't cook. I hate doing it and no matter how much you ask, I'm not going to. So whoever I end up marrying is either going to do the cooking, like take-out, or hire a personal chef. 'Cause I'm not doing it.

Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yUmmm... most of the famous chefs have always been men. This mindset of "women should be in the kitchen and make better food" is just silly nonsense. Women and men can both make good food. It's got nothing to do with gender. Just the love of cooking.
