5.9K opinions shared on Dating topic. Most women I know are better cooks then I am. Sure I know some men who are really good cooks but not that many of them compared to the women I know who are better.
Also learning how to cook is never wasted time that's a life skill everyone should learn man or woman like cleaning and how to do maintenance on basic things around your house. Or on your vehicle like changing oil or putting antifreeze in your vehicle, changing a tire etc.
Also just because some of the best cooks in the world happen to be men doesn't say anything regarding the general population those men who are some of the best cooks in the world aren't as good as they are because they're men but rather because they strove to be the best in their field.
Men like women occupy both extreme ends of the spectrum being some of the best cooks in the world and some of the worst cooks in the world just like anyone else in literally everything in the world.
The notion of your question is silly, lots of people are better at doing things you know how to do that doesn't mean you shouldn't learn or know how to do something. That sounds like an excuse to just be lazy or ignorant to me.

1.2K opinions shared on Dating topic. Damn, this is a good question. It's true I'm a hell of a cook, and your question raises a good point too. But I think the expectation for women to cook is largely based in situations where the woman is maybe a stay-at-home wife. Although you do still have a lot of women who work too but still want to do the cooking and want her man to have something to come home to. Men will sometimes do the cooking on the weekends. I think either situation is fine, if she does all the cooking, or he does all of it.

+1 yI’ve finally learned a bit in terms of cooking but thankfully 90% of the guys I’ve dated insisted on cooking (and thats before having ever tried my food) 😂 So i’ll stick to dating little chefs. To answer the question, I think men assume they have more hands-on work to do than women so they probably figured she could cook and clean to keep herself busy. Mehh

But seriously, I don't expect women to cook. If you are asking why some people feel this way, I think it's just a traditional gender role thing. Like "Guys are supposed to take out the trash and mow the lawn. Women are supposed to sew and cry about random things." It's kind of arbitrary, but my best guess is because a lot of these things seem to be associated with indoors and outdoors? Trash, lawns = outside. Cooking, sewing, laundry, &c. = inside. Men go out, women stay in, that seems to be the basic traditional formula.
00 Reply 1.3K opinions shared on Dating topic. Because women are more careful doing certain things and they take more care into details. Like compare when going who takes more time on average going out to prepare for going on a date, a man or a woman?
I think there are many guys that are great cooks but I disagree saying that´s the average of all men. I think on average women are better cooks though there more male chef cooks publicily known.
But the reason for that is that those guys are good at taking the spotlight. Male chef cooks know how to attract the crowds attention to what they are doing while female chef cooks are more focused on the details of their meals.00 Reply- 2.8K opinions shared on Dating topic.
+1 yare men better cooks? i've never really heard this. i tend to not think it is true though because it is far too general and not rooted in some biological trait that would give men an edge towards cooking.
but why are women expected to cook? i think it comes from long long contrived social constructs. typically men were hunters. so they came home to women who were to have prepared the fire to cook the kill. later men tended to be the earners. so they were out all day worker while (traditionally) the woman stayed at home, so again the logic says the person staying at home would prepare a meal.
but i think this has changed a ton in the last few decades. i know i am the primary cook in my house

+1 yBecause a woman has more time in between the day to "cook" something no matter how small, we get up at 5 we bolt out the door at 6, and see you at 6,7,8,9,10pm, so only free days might be weekends, and if we have time i'm sure we like/love to cook for our woman in one of these 2 days. But always a man loves to feel that there is a "woman" in the house.🤷♂️
00 Reply Knowing how to cook for yourself and your immediate family is part of being an adult. It's not exactly a hard skill to pick up. Today you don't even really need to know how to cook, all you have to do is know how to listen. There are endless video tutorials and recipes that you can watch or read for free all over the internet. So basically anyone that doesn't know how to cook, doesn't know how to listen. If you don't know how to listen, then you don't know how to be in a relationship.

To be honest I don't think there's anything written in stone on who has to cook I mean when you're in a relationship you're both helping each other by doing things when needed to be done I mean if I was designated cooker I would be designated cooker it's not a big deal to me00 Reply
+1 yNo way men r better cooks 😂 my boyfriend has 10% knowledge of cooking bc he wasn't taught that or just not interested in it. I taught myself to make bread, pie crusts, and even pasta noodles. He was taught to take care of cars. That is why women cook and men get dirty 🫦

+1 yI think this mentality is rooted on the economy and family maintanence system of old times. Just simple distribution of work, that, man had to go outside and women had to stay in home to take care of children and home. Being a better cook too was used to be a work to be done outside thus men learned better way to cook thousands dishes which definitely was not with the case with women who stayed in the home and cooked regular meal everyday. In a more part of the world than then women now have started to go out but i think this culture is not yet spread equally in every society. Also culture of women cooking in home too has decreased a but definitely has not got readen of from every society.
00 Reply453 opinions shared on Dating topic. In a long term relationship, or marriage the partner who makes less money or no money at all should do the household work. A marriage is a partnership where the sum of the union is more than the sum of the individual parts. If the woman is living in my home, her lifestyle is being upgraded by my income, if her kids (mine also) are getting a good education and head start in life, then she's going to have to cook to show her value.

- +1 y
Huh... okay... well it seems like that's another off shoot of the idea that more men occupy the extremes while women tend to fall more in the middle of any skill curve. So you have more men than women in the top and lowest 20% of cooks, that doesn't mean men are better overall though.
Also, being a good cook isn't even something you could tell from someone being a great chef. Being a chef is more about management and business know-how than it is talent behind a stove.

I only explained what made it a tradition. Sure women now have the choice to work with dangerous jobs but majority wouldn't. Just like majority of men these days wouldn't wanna work on those dangerous fields but women were never forced to do those jobs unlike men.
So if you ask why women are expected to cook that's the same reason why men are expected to be burdened in the workplace which are both quite outdated.
