Spend half an hour inside a busy kitchen and you'll see why.
It is a harsh, highly stressful environment where your coworkers are as likely to swear at and insult you as they are to ask nicely. It is also one of the main professions known for drug abuse to keep up mentally.
Cooking at home meanwhile is often relaxed. While planning and techniques are much the same the conditions are polar opposites.
Obviously some women thrive in stressful environments but most opt out of it. We see the same choice made in pretty much every professional field.

In the West, women actually don't do much cooking at all anymore, and when they do it's usually something like mac and cheese or a simple casserole. When men cook, they tend to take it more seriously, and they don't view it as "an oppressive patriarchy-imposed sexist gender role". I don't know any professional chefs but I know a lot of guys who are good cooks. I don't know many women who are though.
I'm a trained chef, went to culinary school. It's an incredibly rough job, I would never willingly go into a line cook job. So stressful. I guess a lot of men just are better at handling the stress. Though we all definitely had a little cry in the walk in chiller. The hours are also incredibly anti-social (as is most hospo jobs) so if you have kids, friends, a boyfriend/girlfriend you'd like to actually see from time to time it's not the job for you. Maybe women tend to prioritise these things.
Chef and cooking as a profession is very different
You're accountable for what you cook at it's expected to be top notch and you have to keep cooking foot items constantly for hours and there's a time pressure , which makes it quite a stressful profession
Why would anyone be surprised if a stressful profession is male dominated

Well, here I am on Girls Ask Guys, sharing my two cents on everything food-related. 😊 So, about the culinary industry being male-dominated, even though women traditionally cook more at home, it's quite the paradox, isn't it? From what I've seen and learned, it really boils down to the professional kitchen's history and culture. Historically, professional kitchens have been viewed as high-stress, physically demanding environments, which could have contributed to the gender imbalance. Moreover, there's the issue of visibility. Male chefs have often been more in the spotlight, which can influence who gets opportunities. But I'm all for changing that narrative! More and more talented female chefs are gaining well-deserved recognition, and I think itβs about time! Let's keep pushing for equality in every kitchen around the globe. 🍳👩β🍳👨β🍳

in your country you are talking about your country where men are treated on the pedestql. that women are considered inferior. a toxic culture pass generation to generation. you guys could not even give equal salary to your women so expect a hocus focus behind the scene. in my country it is considered nute to have this kind of mentality
Have you ever LOOKED at the menus these supposedly best chefs prepare? I hate all that poncy rubbish. Give me a straight forward Roast Chicken or Steak any day of the week!
Anyone can cook that. Men or women!!
Because most women dont want to do all the cooking at home just to also do cooking at school and at work. When men cook, it's more likely because they actually enjoy it. When women cool, it's more likely because they feel like they have to.
Playing Fifa doesn't make you a great footballer
Lmao bad example but cooking a lot at home doesn't make you a professionalMost women who cook do it because they have to. Most men who cook do it because they enjoy it
Because men are expected to be earners. We always have been. We always will be.
Men are better at cooking and woman are better and making babies, what is your point? I would rather have a baby than a bowl of sushi.
It depends on the person male or female, the desire that you have to be really good
Maybe women don't join the culinary industry as much as men do?
It isn't the amount you cook, its how well you cook. Men are better chefs.
Because people think they are more competent than women
They don't want to be a-holes like Gordon Ramsey
