If someone touches you inappropriately (and clearly on purpose), what do you do about it?

I was on a bus, just getting on and walking through the isle, and a guy literally just stuck his hand up my dress and grabbed my ass. I couldn't believe it, I mean seriously? I immediately shoved him away, but I didn't even know what to do because right after he ran off the bus. It's so crowded I couldn't even see him then.

Can you file a report with the police for that? I feel like it's useless since I don't even know his name. Should I have slapped him, decked him or something? I'm not a violent person, and I was too shocked. It just really sucked, and I feel awful and disgusting.

You should report it to the police, chances are that he has done it before and will probably do it again. If enough women and girls report it chances are one of them will see who it is and report what he looks like, they'll get a pattern of where he does this and they'll get him on some street or store camera and thus pinpoint him down.

What his sentence would be, I have no idea, but it is a form of sexual harassment.

It's sexual assault, I think he'd be looking at a least a year of jailtime. I wish there were cameras positioned on buses.

Those things happen. Don't let it bother you. Next time, yell and use your nails to claw at his eyes.

On the job, three grown up married co workers slapped my but jokingly (separately). I just laughed. (I'd have hit back at the same place, of course, if it hadn't been on the job)

All sexual predators want women to believe this. It's called sexual assault. The predator reached up her dress! And, what you're referring to is a 'wanted' experience among people you know, not an unwanted experience from someone that the poster doesn't know. Whoever liked this, I'm sad for humanity. That's called a sexual predator, and it 'happens' because society allows it.

happened to me on the train. a**hole slid his hand up my skirt. he ran right off the train too. someone helped me report the incident but nothing ever came of it. I hate people like that. it happened over a year ago to me but I sometimes still feel sick about it. hope you're handling it better than I did :/

It has happened to me and my immediate reaction was to slap him hard and then spit him in the face. At least the passengers on the bus supported me after that.

I absolutely agree with reporting it to the police. It is a sexual assault, and, if there were cameras, he needs to be put in jail. He's a sexual predator who is intentionally doing this because he knows he can get away with it. I would want to stay off the bus system or only wear pants, I'm sorry to say that but this day and age, we have more people/more narcissistic sexual predators. Also, I would get counseling for the assault. You are worth more, you likely froze, because that's a typical response to sexual assault and the a**hole knows that. You can carry mace with you and be holding it up in unlocked position ready to go, then he'll fall down and you can get out of the bus and have someone pin him down and call the police. Also, scream! The problem is, it 'is' so unexpected so it's almost impossible to be on guard for a second time. Women need cameras installed on buses.

I probably would've done exactly what you did.

If it's someone I have to see regularly, I usually let them get away with one and tell them to never do it again. If they do, they get punched or shoved. Haha!

This should not be seen as 'normal' or 'expected' there needs to be a method of self defense and a way to protect oneself. There need to be cameras put in place. In the meantime, he should be reported. 'He' is the one who should feel bad while sitting in jail.
