+1 yNotice the small blade in her left hand. She cut herself free of him, leaving her heart behind. I would take it as a sign that this was a mutually destructive relationship between two people who shouldn't have gotten into one to begin with. And when it ended (which the actual breakup was initiated by her, as evidenced by her holding the blade) they both left something behind, and will never be whole again.
I think it's a metaphor for what happens when two young people who aren't yet prepared for the reality of what happens when a relationship gets serious try to follow through with one. They both walk away worse for it, possibly in ways that will make future prospective partners want to write them off.21 Reply- +1 y

Please check the pic again, she has a hole where the heart is while almost everything in him is gone but the heart remains in him exactly at the same point where her heart shows a gap/hole. He was so full of her that when she walked away almost everything in him went with her but she left her heart with him i.e. she loves him but had to leave - matter of perception ;)
- +1 y
Hey, Raj: Everyone's heart is in the same place, ergo the hole is in the same place, man. Not to mention the heart is still hanging from strands of the male's tissue.
I see you argue that you don't think she's heartless. Maybe you don't, but that man right there feels like she is. First and foremost this is a representation of what that fellow feels, and he feels she is heartless. You can interpret it however you want, but I (respectfully) think your explanation is a little shaky. - +1 y
Haha! Well, I did give it much thought, and yours seems simple and direct, without all the extra stories behind it... It can fit many scenarios, however, no one person can really have "NO" heart and still be alive... so saying to "him" it "feels" like she had not heart, seems to be the most correct. Depending on how you look at it.. but I get it now. :]! Thank you!
- +1 y
no* heart. I always put "not" when I mean 'no'...xD typos
2.9K opinions shared on Other topic. One thing I find a bit odd about this picture is the fact that it seems like she actually had to cut herself out of his body to be able to leave. What if it was an abusive relationship and it felt like she was trapped by him? For her to be able to cut herself out of the relationship, she had to get rid of her feelings for him (her heart). And now that she's leaving, he realizes what he has missed out on and regrets treating her badly, or doing whatever he did to make her leave.
Alternatively, as some have pointed out, it could be that he felt like she was a part of him, and she's heartless for leaving him.16 Reply- +1 y
Thanks! :]
Yes, indeed it fits many different scenarios and interpretations... It's very interesting to see how differently everyone perceives things and what they get from an image... the ropes or whatever that blue thing is ,can either mean that karma is coming back for her (since it's around her arm and between her legs) ,or that their memories would still haunt her but she doesn't care (since it's around her arm and between her legs and she doesn't seem affected by these ropes)26 Reply- +1 y
I think you're the only one so far that has actually taken notice of the floating blue laces... Interesting theory... thank you :]! could be possible.

Awesome! hadn't really noticed the 'blade' in her hand but again it symbolizes a tough decision for her to cut herself out of him to walk away. I'd say they both loved each other a lot but someone had to take a decision that is tough for some reason. I don't agree with the 'heartless' part in her, we perceive so cause we c the man's expression while we c her walking away
- +1 y
I see your point HandsomeRaj... I'm inclined to see it that way as well... and perhaps now after this experience, since he has her heart, maybe her relationships after this will be heartless... and too bad for the new comers in her life.. she's been hurt and now she's probably a bitch... by the way she's walking away with the blade... like she's had enough and over and done with... but we cannot see her expression... shows courage but she could be so sad...
- +1 y
Believe me it's a matter of perception. Facts & truth have no value, it always depends on perception. What we perceive is usually what we are like (generally). I LOVED the anon guy there who's stated it biologically lol (I'd give him a BA just for the jest of it lol)
A person who leaves their heart behind is not necessarily a bitch, it means he/she can't love anyone the same way again :) I know cause I feel the same.
The woman who made me love her so crazily, left me (& I think she was ... - +1 y
, justified, she wanted something more than a guy who could worship her very breath & beat) & I love her so much that I just can't seem to parallel it with anyone else.
My daughter's taken away from me (not by the court) but I haven't tried to get her back legally owing to the ruckus created the moment I try that stung makes the child's life miserable. Rather she stay in peace knowing that I'm available at her beck and call. Today I can't love or pamper another child cause guilt kills me .. - +1 y
... cause I'm unable to pamper my daughter.
These 2 things make me seem like a heartless chap in addition to which I'm poker faced with a baritone voice + professionally hardened attitude (lol) but while being called insensitive and heartless, I know what I go through every breath and beat ;) :D
It kinda reminds me of the poem 'I carry your heart, I carry it in my heart' or somthing like that. At first, I though it was of a women a broke up with that guy cos he looked sad. But then the lines directing towards her, as well as her heart in his heart made me realize that perhaps even though the gu knows that he has no hope for her, he's willing to follow her lead just to be around her.
14 Reply- +1 y
oh, it also looks like it's a trangender or transexual person. I'm not very known of those terms, but the space in the guy is kinda the shape of the women. So basically her walking away with confidence shows that he left his 'men side' and made himself look like a women because that's how he feels he is
- +1 y
wow, that transgender interpretation hadn't even crossed my mind at all.. good observation! It could be a possibility... as for the poem, I'm not familiar with it.

+1 yKinda creepy. It's like one person split into two. And they each took different body parts. The guy (I assume) took the heart because the woman has a heart cut out. The woman took most of the internal part of the body while guy has the outskirts.
This image could mean a variety of things. The one in my mind at the moment is: A couple was deeply in love. It felt like they were together in one body because they were so close. It's like nothing could split them apart. However, something huge happened between the two which caused them to break up. Since they used to feel like they were connected into one body, they ended up splitting and each taking different parts of the body.10 ReplyI admit that I immediately thought she was a bitch but now I think its about male oppression because the ribbons seem to be trying to hold her back. He consumed her and now she's becoming her own figure. Perhaps it was the authors intention for you to initially hate her but love her once you look for reasons why she's left. It demystifies feminism as escaping imprisonment rather than coldhearted women who want to crush men for sport

Anonymous(36-45)+1 yIt means the lower abdomen and thorax of a man can turn into a woman and walk out of his back but the heart will stay behind because heart is made of strong muscle and has lots of mitochondria that provide lots of energy and men are made of muscle and have lots of energy and that's where the heart likes to be.
21 Reply- +1 y
O_o
Anonymous(36-45)+1 yDont like that picture... because women can fuck up guys emotionally by being a cold bitch and that is exactly what she is doing.
In a way it shows how she left him, and took a big piece of him with her... and she does not have a heart... for doing it.
You are pretty... I wish you were my girlfriend. You first entice to lure and encourage that statement then once you get it... you walk away and never look back.
That is basically what that picture is.21 Reply- +1 y
sounds tragic.. your theory is possible... but maybe he caused her to become a cold hearted bitch? no? we can't see her face... maybe she's sad, and had to confront the situation with courage to be able to cut herself out from where she clearly belongs... but I suppose we all interpret it differently depending on our own experiences in life. but in any end.. it's still the same melancholic sentiment...
+1 yLooks like she has a blade in her hand, like she cut herself out.
I'd interpret it as once you have a bond with someone, even to extremes of physically harming each other and distances between two people, you're always going to have a little piece of them left behind. Doesn't matter how much someone hurts you, or how far away they go, if you loved them a little part of you will always care for them.10 Reply5K opinions shared on Other topic. I actually wonder why is everyone calling the woman heartless? just cause she took a decision? and concealed cause her facial expression is not depicted against his being depicted? We can also see that she's left her heart behind in him since her heart area is hollow. Though she walked away she's left her heart in him.
- +1 y
@ QA: That's the beauty of interpretation. The picture holds a thousand words.
@ HandsomeRaj: The fact that the man has a sad expression and you can see right through him means a lot. The fact that the woman's back is turned, shows that she is leaving him.
You can see HIS heart but you cannot see HERS. This means a lot.
it seems like it goes back to the adam and eve era. that women were made from us. but from the looks of it this image explains that as a result of women being created out of us the only thing they are missing is a heart. which is very true

@Nochielo: how can you say he's the on that looks hurt when you can't see her face? She has a hole where her heart should be... and she had to cut herself out... I wonder who's saddest... when we can't se her face and considering it takes a lot of courage to cut oneself... especially from a place where it appears as though you're the piece that completes the puzzle... hmmm...
@dimples123: that could be very possible... - +1 y
Her posture. If the artist intended to display her as being sad, why did he make her stand so straight? It still doesn't explain where her heart would be, which brings me to my initial point: he feels like she never felt anything for him due to the way she left him. Her heart is not there and there is no other place it would be.
In any case, that's the great thing about art: it means something different to everyone. Just wanted to point out some things. - +1 y
YES I feel like it proves two points of views, but one situation
- +1 y
You might have a point, however, I put myself in the position and if I had the courage to cut myself away from someone that hurt me, once I did it, I wouldn't be walking away so weakly... on the contrary, I'd be walking just the way she is, confident and strong! even if I was torn all up inside, it's a sign of triumph to move on... Otherwise, I wouldn't be able to detach myself from what was hold ing me back to begin with... that's how I see it... but like you said, this has MANY interpretations
- +1 y
Ahh, but here you bring up the woman's motivations, which I don't think can be accurately assessed in the picture. This is a picture about how HE feels, that's why he's in the forefront. What we can explicitly see in the pic is that HE feels hurt. Let us remember that this is a representation of his thoughts, not any physical interaction. In visual arts, whatever you don't see can't be used for interpretation, especially over what you can see and I believe this is how many have analyzed this.
- +1 y
Really? Nochielo? I was taught to see far beyond what the eye can see... :]! It's not just about what you can see at a glance but also to make you think!...
but in any case this has very many different interpretations and all right in their own sense... It's kind of like a song.. we each interpret it depending on our own life experiences and what we're going through, and that's how we relate to it. - +1 y
Everyone's interpretation is valid, but you cannot interpret what isn't there. In other words, you can take anything into account anything you can see for your analysis, but you cannot take what is not there. You will not see what the artist intended, you will waste his message. I know enough theory to know for a fact that is the only way to analyze the visual arts. In the artist intends a meaning that is not shown anywhere in his work, he's making poor art, he's expressing nothing.
- +1 y
Nochielo: I like your theory, more than most here... however I disagree with what you say here... what's not shown is for one to think about and analyze (in my opinion) to form my own idea, and the same for everyone else, irrelevant to what the original idea was, it's not put to waste because ... indefinitely we all see what we choose to see.
- +1 y
We can only define things as what they are and not as what they are not. I think our impasse is because we are using "what it means" and "what it means for me" as synonyms. The former only has one correct answer: what the author tries to show you. The latter is how the audience relates to it. Here is where we can color the interpretation with our own experiences and convictions.
I'd be terrified if my writings were misconstrued, the message is just as important as the catharsis. - +1 y
& I agree with that 100%! but after analyzing what the illustrator might be trying to portray through the drawing, the viewer becomes curious as to "why" or rather "what" led him to feel this way.. If you say she is drawn without a heart because perhaps she hurt him, & that's the reason why he feels as if she has no heart, there has to be more to this... that's when all the unseen things come into play.. but I get what you mean when you're ONLY describing what is precisely depicted in the image.
- +1 y
True, it is only natural to try to provide context to any situation. It's how we are wired, the mind tries to remove all gaps in its reasoning. I have limited my interpretation to what is unarguably there, mainly because that's the way I see art (the artist's vision comes first and then we see what we get from it) but also because I cannot relate at all. I have never experienced any situation like this one, so I guess you have an "emotional vantage point" so to speak.

And she has a smaller hole where her heart got cut out (by herself), so she obviously knows what she's doing otherwise she wouldn't have done it. She's going to heal up just fine, as well.

to cut a persons soul out would need to be heartless to begin with. the heart is attached to the guy proving he has been left with his heart. Regardless when someone leaves you like that, you are left with heart ache. The heart isn't taken away.

She bedazzled him with her beauty/lies (the ribbons) which were her weapon (the razor) that she uses to take what she wants from him (his flesh) and his heart is left hanging in the hole she left behind, she has a heart shaped hole in her because she didn't want his heart only his resources (flesh) she confidently walks away with what she wanted while he is left dumbfounded by the treachery. - +1 y

14 Reply- +1 y
That could be true... but it also takes a lot of courage to cut oneself... so to do that and leave with a hole in your heart must be brave and could have been a very hurtful decision that maybe possibly he made her do?... or why else would she leave with out her heart? or are you assuming she had no heart to begin with?
Opinion Owner+1 yHe has a heart, which is still attached to him. That leads me to believe that he has had a heart all along. Her heart is nowhere to be seen. That makes me think she didn't have a heart to begin with. If I had seen her heart lying on the floor somewhere, then I might think she cut out her own heart. As it is I believe she was already heartless.
- +1 y
I see... so you choose to believe she's a horrible person...
Perhaps, their hearts became one? and hers is tied to his? It belongs to him now? and she left because maybe he didn't love her enough? and now that she's gone she took a part of him... but not his heart because he doesn't love her, but it doesn't stop him from being sad... I suppose we relate to it differently... but I definitely see your point of view.
Opinion Owner+1 yThere is nothing in the picture that would cause me to see that their hearts became one. Nor is there anything that suggests any wrong doing on his part, such as him holding her heart or something to that effect.Or that he mistreated or hurt her in any way. That could have happened, but it isn't represented in the picture. She is the one leaving, and the one holding the blade, while he is clearly the one in pain. If he had wronged her, there is no evidence in that picture.
+1 yMen and women need each other.
23 Reply- +1 y
perhaps... but why would she cut herself out if she needs him?
- +1 y
Because of hurt. The guy is oblivious of it, because women expect us just to understand what we did wrong. When we don't they grow bitter, and end up leaving. It's the guys fault for not realizing a woman is different than he is, and her fault for not telling him exactly what the problem is, and then allowing her heart to be open to forgive him.
