Is sending selfies to your new girlfriend/boyfriend the norm?

I'm so clueless when it comes to dating because honestly I hardly have.

This guy I just started getting serious with randomly sent me pics of him and he just said he wanted to show me his silly side. They're cute pics he took and all that. But so random.

Is this just what people do? I mean yeah I missed seeing him, is he trying to get into my head or something?
