I think it kind of has to do with how Hollywood portrays them. Look at the main character from iZombie, look at any character from a Rom Com, hell even look at some pre-Ghostbusters 2016 superheroes like Kim Possible and then look at literally any character played by say Tiffney Haddish, or Leslie Jones or even Black Panther which is about an entire fictional country and all women seem to have kind of the same attitude except maybe T'Chala's mom to some small extent. On one side the white women characters always have a lot of air of femininity behind them, the black characters have nothing but arrogance.
Also it is kind of how hollywood promotes black people and black rap. E. g one of the songs that kept popping on the radio had lyrics "i don't dance, I make money move" and another had "I got a condo in Manhatten".
Meanwhile a white guy sang this about a thrift store:
And when Emenim sings about Detroit, he sang this:
Even with other races, you have Hasan Minhaj making fun of Indians in not only Homecoming King but also in one of the first episodes of Patriot Act.
And I kind of even get why this is the case, there has been historical prejudice against black people a LOT so maybe in your mind you think you HAVE TO show off the wealth and your independence and you have to be boastful while White people and Asians can do things with subtlety when we didn't face this of discrimination. For example look at how execs in Silicon Valley dress, they seem to be wearing very cheap clothes (which by the way are NOT according to some article I read on Wired or YCombinator I read) and drive cars that don't look as fancy because they are secure in the knowledge no one will suspect them of being poor or a drug dealer or criminal and if someone questions, them they can read off their list of accomplishments (which already being born rich afforded them, by the way) instead of showing off wealth.
Also insecure white people and Asians do this showing off boastful stuff too: case in point the oversized "McMansions" from the 1980s or any Trump tower or stupidly large Yachts.
TLDR: Basically media + social insecurity due to historical prejudice.
Well look at the statistics, 72% of black children are born out of wedlock. I believe the rate for cheating is almost 70% as well. In that environment trust is going to be hard to come by so they probably adopt that attitude because if they choose to be vulnerable they probably will be made to regret it. This is probably also why when black women marry white men they have the lowest divorce rates of any group, because they are removed from those environmental factors and are finally able to drop the independent attitude and admit they want that traditional life. For the record I'm not blaming black men, both are equally to blame in this and I think quite honestly that both need to step back and realize whats going on in order to fix their relationships with each other.
I can't speak for all black women, but I was raised not to depend on a man. Because ultimately if something happens to where you're alone or single, who's going to take care of you but yourself.
Yes, I had a mother and father, both of whom loved and made sure I had almost anything I needed to succeed.
But my mom specifically always warned me not to "knocked up," too early, let a man hold me back from my career or dreams, and be able to take care of myself.
So yes, I am an independent woman that does not need a man to be happy or successful. And I'm not ashamed of that mentality either! What's wrong with being able to proud of being and independent? Not a damn thing.
And no disrespect to women that are strong wives, mothers, and career women- ALL women that can hold their own are great in their own way!
It's just black women get more hate because of the negative attention and stereotypes certain celebrities portray them as.
When you are literally at the bottom of the societal totem pole no wonder African American women have to be independent. They are fighting their way up.
Also, African American women are more single because if they only date African American men they are the men who marry the least or many times they don't date outside their race while African American men are more likely. The percentages are just against them unless they date outside of their race.
Post Note: other races of women aren't managing both. They are exhausted a lot of the time trying to manage both.
A lot of black girls are raised by single moms so they don’t grow up with positive male role models, and a lot of men find them less attractive than other races. They value independence more because they aren’t used to dependable men.

Most are raised in single parent house holds or dysfunctional house holds. So they carry baggage and fears with them.

I dont think that's true at all. I think you're looking at instagram famous black models. Well look at the white models or models of other races on instagram. They are strikingly the same. I'm black and my goals are to have a good career. Not everyone needs to get married and have kids. Not everyone wants to, that's their choice and nothing wrong with it. And Its better to be independently stable then always reliant on someone else

I actually think white women do this more. I think for black women they want relationship it’s just that there aren’t that many black men cause there are a lot in jail
