It means he hopes you're having a good morning, it could mean interest. Does he also say goodnight? Does he ask about your day? If so, he probably is interested.

He doesn't say goodnight but yes he asks how am I doing or how's my day going.

Well, while those are the sorts of questions a friend may ask. I typically reserve it for girls I like, show them in some small way that I care. So I couldn't say for sure how he means it. When you tell him about your day, does he actually listen and take interest in the particulars?
