I don't like to be woken up prematurely. Just let me sleep unless there's an emergency! If there is something important though that requires my attention, my wife has a very gentle way of touching me and speaking to me very softly. It's the least jarring way to wake up.

  Gives me time to very slowly wake up instead of instantly which I find much more pleasant.
