How did you know you were in love?

I don’t think I’ve ever been in love, I’m not sure. But I think I came very close to it with one boy.

I cared for him so much, I think he’ll always have a spot in my heart. He was the first boy I held hands with and my first kiss. He taught me a lot and showed me how I deserved to be treated. He looked after me. He used to get so concerned over my safety and always made sure people treated me right. He was kind, gentle and loving me with me.

I don’t know what it is - I wish I knew - but he was so lost and confused. Something was going on for him and he was hurting. Like I said, he was confused.

So our little thing ended and I’ve never been so heartbroken over a guy. I cried into arms for an hour - I reckon he’s still got mascara stains on his school jumper from wiping it away from my eyes. I cried for a week after and it took me ages to get over him.

A little while after our thing ended, he was in a bad mental state and ran away. I cried when I heard that - it hurt me so bad that he felt that way. I was so worried. I don’t think he knew how much he meant to me. He had my whole heart and soul.

I don’t know if he felt that same. I wish I knew, but I don’t think I ever will. It’s been 2 years and it still hurts me.

Usually it's when the relationship is progressing and you start to get attached.
- When I'm very attracted to her and she seems to like me.
- We're spending all our free time together and I'm thinking about her constantly.
- We miss each other when we're not together.
- We're becoming comfortable with each other.
- We get along good and the sex is exciting.
That's when I feel like I love her.
