I think it's only natural to show your partner how you truly feel about them if you've been together for a few months or even a couple weeks since you started dating. No matter how cool or distanced you may feel yourself be, the feelings remain and they're undeniable if they're real, and eventually at some point in time, they too would want to know how you really feel about them or if they made a mistake and you don't feel the same way as they do.

It's just another form of communication, and communication needs to be imperative in any healthy relationship no matter what. If you tend to keep secrets and stuff from your S/O, trust me buddy, your otherwise healthy seeming relationship is gonna turn toxic real soon, real quick. On the flipside, if it's your partner who isn't showing their true feelings and acting cagey and distant around you, then that's equally a problem. Talk it out with them over a nice dinner, discuss things and if they persist, end it. You deserve someone who's open with you and reciprocates your feelings back at you.

I want to be 100% transparent with my partner just like how I would want to be as honest as possible with most people I meet. Obviously, in a relationship, that communication would have to be more important than if you were just talking to homeless Billy down the street. On the other hand, its uncomfortable to show my emotions to other people so I rather just drop the conversation (for the moment) until I get my emotions under control if I'm getting too emotional.
