In Euphoria, why did Cassie hook up with Nate?

Did they ever explain why Cassie chose to hook up with Maddy's ex, Nate Jacobs? Did Cassie ever really care about Maddy at all?

I've only seen season 2, but:

- Cassie is obsessed with male validation and attention. She has shaky self esteem because of her childhood trauma. She probably had her eye on Nate for a long time and needed his validation.

- She clearly wasn't Maddy's real friend so would put a guy over her. She showed no remorse even afterwards, instead shifting the blame. Show how little she cares about Maddy.

- She was envious of Maddy and wanted to be her, I think. Going for her ex was a way to assuage her jealousy.
