Do you mean is it hurtful to end a relationship on someone when they have told you all there deepest and darkest secrets over a year. And you have shared yours as well. And he thinks you guys are strong and you finally saw or heard the one that broke the camels back...

This is an adult decision and no one can make it but you. If you think you are doing the right thing then you should be doing it. It is unlikely that a guy in this relationship or position could ever be friends with you. It probably is better that he is crushed so that he has absolutely no desire to be with you.

If you have done this and regret next week, please do not contact him. It will never work and one of you will probably make contact years later. Best with everything.

Of course not. That’s like saying it’s wrong to end a relationship because you were together for a long time, went through a lot of things, etc etc. Couples are going to share secrets, create a history and whatever else but none of that obligates you to stay together.
