If I have an interest in speaking with another, I will call first so that we can connect personally and leave a voicemail. If no response by dinner then a text will be sent referencing "I left you a voicemail, take a listen, and call me back." At this point, I have done all that I am planning to do.
I hold tight and wait at this point... and especially so in your case as you have been leading the conversations. If there is no response then I know where I stand in this person's life. This is Standing is much more important than whether I miss him or not.

It depends on my mood.
Sometimes if I'm really bored and I want company I will, but a lot of the time I won't because it's normally me initiating and I feel like they just reply to be nice
