What is it like being in a relationship? How do they make you grow as a person? What's the best part about it?

I never had one so I'm just wondering 🤔. I'm close to thirty and still no relationship experience I have always been alone. So, am I growing up if I'm alone all of the time?

There are a lot of interpersonal skills and character development needed to be a great significant other.


When you’re in a relationship, your strengths and weaknesses will be revealed, and you’ll have the opportunity to grow and develop yourself so that you can not only be a better version of yourself, but a better partner for your significant other.


Communication skills, listening skills, conflict resolution skills, emotional support skills, anger management skills, stress management skills, patience, compassion, empathy, courage, leadership, responsibility, and much more.


It is what you make of it though. Some people go from one relationship to the next without thinking about what went wrong in the last relationship and how to improve. But other people learn from every single experience and every single relationship and grow as a result.


As a side note, learning how to be a great partner to your spouse will also help you be a much better parent as well.


You’ll be able to model a healthy relationship to your kids and show them how to behave like a mature adult during disagreements or stressful situations etc. Also, you’ll be able to show them how to listen and empathize and communicate because you’ve done a lot of that with your spouse so you know how to show them.

You don’t NEED a significant other to grow.

But, it can help you grow if you are actively learning from it.

Just like you don’t NEED to be a parent to grow, but there is a lot you can learn from parenting.

And of course, there are both horrible spouses and horrible parents, so becoming a spouse or a parent doesn’t automatically equate to growth if they aren’t actively trying to improve themselves as a spouse or parent.

Wow so many questions, dude go try a relationship for yourself! Just go try! Anyways….

1. For me the best part is companionship, a “partner in crime”

2. I think you grow and mature as you are caring for someone else other than yourself

3. Of course you are growing up, but less influence from others when alone. This can be good and bad.

oh, really, I just never gotten a relationship because I rarely talk to anyone. So, is it bad if I never grown up with anyone?

No it’s not bad, I think it’s a matter of opinion. Without a partner there is less influence that could be good or bad. I personally think having someone is helpful…. For example when I’m lazy my girlfriend kicks me in the butt, or when I was unhappy she encouraged me to find a new job….(and I do the same for her) that’s a good thing about relationships

You may be more grown up than many because there is a tendency to hide in the relationship. To make life all about them and never develop one’s own Person.

It is fun being in a relationship. You have companionship and somebody that cres about you. However , there is a great deal of responsibility that goes along with it, You are no longer wandering the earth by yourself. If you disappear for days at a time somebody will worry about you. You have to be cognizant that there is now two people that you have to take care of, not just you. I suppose having responsibility is a way to achieve personal growth.
