Do we ever really know what love is?

In my experience, we go through stages of love in life. At every stage we think we know what real love is. But when we reach the next stage we realize we didn't. And further down the road, in later stages, we look back and wonder how we ever could have thought what we felt was love. But we also finally realize that it won't be too long before our current notion of love, however confident we may be about it, will be replaced with an even deeper understanding. There is a lot of pain in between the stages, but that's how we learn and perfect our love.

One of the few compensations of getting old is that we become closer to the time that we may one day have a chance to experience the ultimate love.
