The biggest rule in a relationship is no matter how mad You are at vour partner, you do not go and seek someone's attention. You sit your ass there and make it right. Because that's your person. If you can easily go to someone else, you do not love the person you are with.

No cheating no matter what, break up before you go mess with someone else. I agree. But a second one is the 75/25. You give 100% of yourself to your partner 75% of the time. And you keep 25% to yourself. You have to have things you do just for yourself and don't involve the partner in it. Its important to understand that it's healthy to be your own person in a relationship, you are two people not one. Also your love should be seen as a best friend. If you can't picture your partner as a best friend then the relationship might not work in the long run.

There is the cardinal rule of no cheating. But I think there should be another rule of reciprocity. Most of the time it's the man who makes disproportionately more effort.
