I allowed my mother to disown me. She gave me the ultimatum of choosing between her or my girlfriend. I chose my girlfriend without any hesitation at which point she disowned me. I ceased to see her or talk to her for over 20 years after that as I moved around the world.

Just recently I started getting in touch hoping to repair things with her, but I don't regret my choice at all. The main reason my mother forced me to choose between her and my girlfriend (who she didn't even meet) is that the first girlfriend was black. My mother doesn't like black people at all.

Besides that, as stated previously, I don't respond well to ultimatums. If someone holds a relationship hostage with me whether it's my own mother or girlfriend or anything else, I shoot the hostage. The relationship is immediately over at that point.
