I have a friend on here that is in a similar situation. He calls his wife by her name but he knows that bothers her, because she has a cute name for him. He’s tried calling her by generic pet names, honey, babe, dear……. but he could tell it bothered her, because it didn’t come across as genuine. They’ve been married for five years, so I wouldn’t worry about, unless there’s other issues besides that.

Sometimes guys call women by Terms of Endearment, like honey, babe, etc., so they don't screw up and call her some other woman's name.
That is very uncomfortable to say the least - especially if they call you by their ex's name. 🙄

Doesn't every couple use endearments? Hun/Babe/Darling etc. It does take the object of affection to accept the affection however.

Is it un-genuine because you are not accepting the affection? That is not a criticism by the way. If someone feels love for you or just expresses interest and your feelings don't reciprocate then it can feel unwelcome.
