What does « arguing » mean exactly?

Those days I often hear the sentence « I hate people who argue » or « I don’t want to date someone who argues » but what does it means exactly? I’m in university so I like to discuss subjects and I don’t understand how we supposed to discuss without arguing? I mean if I don’t agree I need to say it (politely of course) but I don’t get what’s annoying? If I’m not supposed to argue then a conversation would look like this :
No name: women are bad drivers
Me: yes your right 🥰
No name : my arguments are bla-bla-bla
Me: of course your right🥰

It doesn’t make any sense to me😵

To me, arguing is when things get heated - yelling, insults, not listening to each other. That shit ain't cute.

But discussing and debating? Totally normal, healthy even. How else you gonna learn new perspectives? As long as it stays respectful I don't see the problem.

Some people just really want an echo chamber where no one challenges their opinions. But that's boring AF if you ask me! And not how the real world works.

Seems like with you it stays polite discussion. Keep doing you sis, whoever complains is just insecure lol. The right people will like that you think for yourself.

Arguing is the action of defending an untenable position for no other reason than because one can not admit they are wrong. If someone makes a statement and you disagree absolutely disagree that is not an issue. If that person then shows evidence proving their statement as factual and you continue to disagree now you are arguing. To use your example

Someone: Women are bad drivers

You: I disagree (that's not accurate, that's false etc)

This is a disagreement

Same 2 lines as above but lines 3 and 4 as well

That person: shares statistics links that show on average women are worse drivers than men

You: those aren't accurate blah blah blah etc etc etc

This has now escalated to an argument as you, in this scenario are defending an untenable position.

Disagreements are fine no one has a problem with those except maybe people with mental problems. Arguments however tend to be quite annoying and taxing even if one doesn't engage.
