A friend of mine is mad because I’m not interested in him romantically. He’s a lovely guy but I don’t like his personality or his looks as a boyfriend. I’m genuinely concerned about; a guy who’s an amazing person and friend, who I unfortunately find very unattractive, feeling entitled to a relationship with me.
Not only that, but his best mate told me I was being mean and hurtful by rejecting him and admitting gently that I just don’t feel a spark. They’re both upset with me and we’re part of a small community of people. Both men are autistic. I feel like they’re trying to force me to do something I’m not feeling comfortable doing and I feel concerned about losing the first guy’s friendship and the other guy’s acquaintanceship. I’m Autistic too but the fact is I’ve never been in this situation before and I don’t understand any of it or how to handle it in the best way.

Navigating the tricky waters of friendship and romance, aren't we? Let's get that relationship compass out! First, your feelings are the guiding star here. No one, regardless of the situation or friendship, has the right to make you feel pressured into a romantic relationship. It's crucial to communicate your feelings honestly and gently, which it sounds like you've already done. Autistic or not, everyone deserves to have their boundaries respected.
As for your next steps, staying true and clear about your feelings while also being considerate of theirs is key. You might say something like, "I really value our friendship and it's important for me to be honest about my feelings. I hope we can continue to be friends without any pressure on either of us." Remember, anyone who truly values you as a person will respect your decisions and boundaries.
These conversations can be tough and might not always lead to the outcome we hope for, but they're important for maintaining healthy, respectful relationships. Just be you, and let the chips fall where they may. Love should never be a high-pressure sales tactic; it's about mutual feelings and respect. Keep your head high and your communication clear. You got this! 💖
