My husband has always been into toy cars, the ones you can put up for display. Is that kind of weird, or adorable?
Does your partner - or yourself - collect things that others may find a bit odd?

“My husband has always been into toy cars, the ones you can put up for display. Is that kind of weird, or adorable?”
It isn’t weird or adorable, it is a hobby that makes him happy.
My advice: You don’t have to be happy with his hobby, though acknowledge that it makes him happy and be content with that because maybe to him he loves the designs & the careful craftsmanship that goes into each car OR he is fulfilling a fantasy of having the cars without shilling out $10,000s of dollars also wasting garage space to house a bunch of cars he doesn’t want to maintain / upkeep compared to the sheer quantity of the miniature vehicles.
My girlfriend collects bags as a hobby like every girl, am I supposed to just say “get rid of them, chop chop!” 👏🏻👏🏻 when it makes her happy? No. It makes her happy so, I am happy.
That's exactly how he feels about it. He's looking for designs of classic cars, say 1950s to 1970s. It's not like spending a lot of money on the real thing, of which he could probably (maybe) just afford one.
No harm done. I'm glad he has this interest.
@Natasha1995 Well I’m happy you love his interest & support him, he’s lucky to have you as a kind, compassionate, understanding and supportive wife.
But, yeah I can relate to the 1950s-1970s makes/models myself so I definitely see the appeal.
It's fine.
I collect floater pens... Coca Cola Stuff, Star Wars stuff. Pins. Board/card games.
I want to start a collection of toy cars. Both fictional cars from franchises (KITT from Knight Rider, Ghostbusters, The Deloreans from Back to the Future, etc), and perhaps a collection of cars I owned.
I bought a friend a Matchbox car of a very similar car to what he has now. Same color, I think same looking interior, maybe two years different, but VERY close to his existing car.
That's nice. Yes, I admit some of these cars are really well made and have a strong resemblance to the real thing..
Though I will admit, I DID think it was weird when my friend and his "little brother" (both adults) insisted we play cars when we were visiting him. I was like 22-23?

He has a hobby of collecting cars , nothing wrong with that , some of those cars might end up being worth a lot of money , so support his hobby , it’s not weird at all. Collecting things is fun , I have a few collections as well that I am glad I collected when I was growing up , not realizing how much the value increased by holding onto them for so long. Some of the things I have is worth a lot of money which I am holding onto until I really need the money. Mainly sports cards and Garbage Pail Kids that I just recently found out are worth a lot of money. I also collect beer glasses and old German beer steins. As well as old Records that are still in great condition. I have all the original Beatles albums on vinyl that are worth a shit ton of money as well. I am holding onto it until I am ready to let it go
It's good he has a hobby he enjoys. Collecting things us a good hobby, toy cars is not unusual.
I collect coins, and coffee mugs of places I've been to. When we travel, my wife helps me find the right mug to add to my collection.
With regards to your question and having just asked my husband, apparently many of these classic, vintage and veteran toy cars etc. can and do fetch huge prices in some worldwide authorised auctions... So maybe this could well be a substantial investment for you all.
I'm an avid collector of Teddy Bears which I strongly suspect many will either feel weird or adorable.
Thanks. Yes, some of the older ones can fetch a high price, but apparently they need to be in good condition and with the original packaging. He usually gets them in store for about a dollar or a dollar and a half. Even newer ones can go for 10 times that on auction sites.
Mmm... teddy bears are adorable.
@Natasha1995
I forgot to mention the condition/packaging etc. which my husband had actually told me to post... Sorry.
Thank so much indeed for your very kind thoughts regarding my collecting Teddy Bears... They're now in three glass cabinets and fast approaching 150 in total... And will continue climbing!
150 is a lot !!
Why do girls do this? Why do you have to think that it might be weird? If he collected action figures or Pokémon trading cards or spent time painting small figurines then let him, instead of thinking it's weird, be encouraging and supportive, stop thinking he has to be this manly man all the time.
I know you didn't ask for all this that I put but I dislike when a woman thinks her boyfriends hobby is weird or immature
I would never use the word immature. I think it's kind of sweet.
Of course it's not weird.
It's just a male equivalent of us females collecting bags, clothes, cute stuffs, etc. Men collecting stuffs should be respected as well. It's the little joys in this chaotic life. 😌
Why TF do you need to ask the internet how to think? THIS is the shit that destroys marriages. If your group of girl friends decides your husband is weird, you will eventually divorce him, even though most of your "boss babe" friends are single and just getting ran through.
Think for YOURSELF and have respect for your marriage and husband.
Very cute. And he could spend his time studying and collecting them instead of going out flirting with other girls. My husband collects anime figures. Only con I could think of probably is the money he spent and the space to display them Lol
I don't think that is such a strange thing to see. One of my brothers and wife are Nascar fans bigtime and they must have over a hundred of those cars on display in the game room of their home.
Nothing wrong with that. I built and collected many balsa wood model planes. I’d leave many uncovered just to show off the intricate construction.
That’s not bad, it’s good he has hobby. Some men even have hobby to collect real cars.
That's what he says: rather than buying a real one, he'd rather have 100+ small ones. He only collects certain makes and models.
Giga Chad, lambed on the sticks, he knows what’s up. I still love Hot Wheels. The passion went dormant for many years, but it’s had a rude awakening. It’s too bad that now they’re OVER A SINGLE FUCKING DOLLAR. WWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
It could be much worse. He could be into video games.
Not weird to collect but I would be concerned if he started playing with them frequently like a little kid.
It's only weird if it was an addiction and he was spending way more for it than buying a real car, or food
adorable
I don't collect cars but I have a few realistic-looking toy cars, wanted more but have no better place to put them on
Weird but adorable. There is a video of a guy giving a toy car to a guy who owned the real thing. A surprise, the reaction was really sweet. Look it up, it will make your day.
He is not rolling around on the floor, making vroom-vroom sounds, is he?
in the general scheme of things collecting toy cars is not a weird hobby. it might actully be a cool hobby.
Not weird at all. Would you rather have him collect dolls? Not worth worrying about at all.
So you’re wondering if it’s good or bad that he has a collection of things he like? Have you considered how that sounds?
My sibling does this along with other various toys. I think it is odd. Apparently there is a market for it.
I think it's perfectly normal because everyone collects something
We all have the right to pursue happiness and that’s what makes him happy more power to about being happy
It’s not weird. Guys will always have an element of “child” in them, me included. And this is part of that childhood that we don’t like to let go.
Who cares? If it makes him happy he has my 100% support
Don't tots usually beg for these? Maybe one or two favourites.. but not much more.
I have several classic cars and antique farm equipment, my wife encourages it
Nothing wrong with that. I collect Iron Maiden t-shirts.
Nah, not weird.
It's just his hobby that he likes to do.
What kind?
Hot wheels?
Yes, Matchbox also. I can always find him in the kid's section of a store :)
Not bad. Could be he is feeling nostalgic
Also, you’d be surprised how much some can be sold for. It’s smart, is it odd for a grown man to collect toys? Sure. I could see the argument, however. Given that it can be lucrative, that is definitely something to consider
Very adorable what are you talking about.
Is he happy? If yes then what’s the problem?
No problem at all as far as I'm concerned.
Nothing wrong with that
Let your hubby enjoy his freedoms!
@Natasha1995 normal
he sounds more of a virgin than me
It’s neither weird nor adorable.
I don't have any of that
Who cares he's not hurting anything
cool i use to do it
Adorable
Weird…
Not adorable
