What matters more to you: Your life or Your House and personal belongings?

Let's say a wildfire starts to rage around your house. The flames get bigger and closer and soon enough your house starts to burn. Will you make a run and choose your life or will you stay and try and save your house even if the chances that you could save it are incredibly low?

Only an idiot or someone suicidal would risk their life to save material possessions. I'd do whatever I reasonably could in advance and up to the point it becomes hopeless. Then I'm outta there like a rocket. Almost anything can be replaced except your life. Or your health, I'm not interested in being a burn victim either. Besides, insurance would cover most of the financial impact. And I have the memories in my head. Things don't matter much to me.

I'm not attached to things. I have things I like but they could be replaced. The most annoying to replace would be government IDs: driver's license and passports. I would miss some art objects that remind me of the place where I bought them, but I would get over it.

A truck was parked next to my Chevy Blazer. It had burst into flames. It was fully involved with flames coming out from under the hood and the front tires were burning. I ran over and unlocked my vehicle to move it. I could feel the heat on my back as I tried to get the door open. Finally I got into it and backed out of the parking space just as the fire department showed up. Looking back it was a really stupid move but I just automatically did it.

Well, if I'm alive, I can get a new house and new belongings. If I'm dead, it doesn't matter if my house and belongings survive or not, because I'm not alive to enjoy them anymore. So I'd definitely say my life is more important to me than anything I own. A corpse can't own anything.
