How long does the honeymoon period last in a relationship?

How long do 2 people have to be in a relationship till the 'honeymoon phase' of texting/calling everyday, passionate sex, seeing each other a few times a week, and similar things of both people being on their best behaviour comes to an end?
Does it always have to come to an end? Share your tips or experiences on how to prepare for that, or to even prevent it from ending.

Nearly every relationship follows the same sequence, starting as a romantic attachment, which includes a sense of longing, a bit of insecurity, an exploration of personalities, testing of limits, break-ups, forgiveness and an intense sexual connection.

Over time, this romantic love will inevitably, and absolutely needs to, grow into a mature love, which is focused on support, nurturing, caring, daily living, family centered values.

This is not to say no more sex, but it likely will lose some steam, and even if it remains hot, the graduation to mature love is not to be avoided but accepted, in fact hoped for, as this is where life-long companionship is found. You are no more likely to separate from a mature love than you would a family member, they become you, not water, blood. So many couples mistake the transformation as a sign they have lost their way, fallen out of love, but the truth is diminished sexual desire is natural, mature love is a gift difficult to replace.

No set time frame, you will know when its arrived, and if you love and stay with your partner, you will get there, and when you do, cherish the arrival, for life is short, love is precious, and sex and romance only a fleeting deception to initiate the journey to destiny together.

Usually the strangulation of the every day honeymoon down to once in awhile & special occasions comes at the hands of external forces that also come lock, stock & barrel with the marriage, e. g. in-law time/care, work/education demands, internal family demands/duties, society demands/taxes/fines/fees, accidents, adapting to new lifestyles/partner, disasters. Thus Cloud 9 might last a year or so or be reduced by LIFE events... but it never goes away for most. Those that lose it = divorce or misery.
However, as the somewhat true joke goes - every time you make love in the first year, put a quarter in a jar; thereafter, take a quarter out each time... and you'll never run out of quarters.

No I don't think that ever has to end if it's a good relationship that both people are willing to work on. Sure, life is going to get in the way and naturally things won't be as intense all of the time. But there should never be that feeling that it's completely over and you're never getting that "good behavior" again. If you get that feeling, then the guy was only wooing you to get you, not to keep you.

I honestly feel a lot of relationships get boring and stale because they stop dating each other. They stop doing all of those things they did in the first place to attract and connect with each other, and then wonder why they're bored, unhappy, and wanting other people.

My personal saying is this: If a man forever treats me like a queen, I'll always make him feel like a king. If the relationship becomes one sided (which I've been in before), and I'm the only one making all the effort while he's stopped the romance because he "got" me, then he's no king and won't be treated as such. You get out of relationships what you put in.

this is something I've wondered as I entered a relationship with my BF. I have never been in one before and have heard that once this phase is over it's all downhill... I've been afraid of it... but we've been together for almost two years and I guess we are still in it... or at least it feels that way. I think a big reason it hasn't ended is because of him... he has a lot more experience with relationships than I do (well.. I have none)... and he wants our relationship to last forever... he wanted to get married pretty early in our relationship... but I've been the one who wants to take it slower because I'm afraid of this honeymoon phase not lasting. If we have any arguments, which are not common... we talk it out and that seems to help... communication really is important

It does always end because there will always be things about your partner that drive you a little bit crazy and troubles in life and other stressors it doesn't mean your relationship is over it just means if you can work through it your relationship is real.

Just because the honeymoon phase ends does not mean that all the things you listed have to. You just stop seeing them as the most magical god-like being ever and start to see that they're human and see their flaws.

While most honeymoon phases end in 3-6 months some last longer. Some couples even get married during it and are rudely awakened when the disillusionment phase sets in. Others never leave the honeymoon phase.

I'll just throw a guesstimate out there since it's different for everyone, and say that the honeymoon phase usually lasts for a couple months up to about six months.

The honeymoon phase does not (and can not) last forever. That's a myth. It's also false, however, to assume that this is a bad thing. All relationships go through stages and personally I feel like all should be celebrated and revered.

Sure, the honeymoon phase is totally exciting and kind of intoxicating, but in my opinion the really good shit starts after the first couple of years, and everything beyond that has the potential to keep getting better and better.

It's just a different type of all-encompassing love that you reach after you've been with someone for several years. It may not seem as flashy on the surface as the honeymoon phase, but believe me, it has the potential to be immensely more satisfying and, well... full.

I think I left the honeymoon stage with my boyfriend at around 11 months into the relationship... it started to slowly fade away after we had begun having sex regularly and came to an abrupt halt soon after we moved in together. Right now I feel kind of numb in my relationship. I wish the honeymoon phase had never ended, as it was the greatest feeling ever to be totally in love with another person. We used to text each other all day everyday, be inseparable, passionately be intimate with each other and exchange "I love you's" on a regular basis. Now it seems like the only time we say we love each other is when one of us is trying to apologize to the other. That's not how it should be, in my opinion. I don't know where we went wrong honestly...

I think it's best if there is never a honeymoon stage. Because then you just feel as all your relationship was a big fake happy lie. I think you should get to know your significant other for their best and worst sides. It's okay to get in little arguments every now and then or even more frequently as long as you are able to get through them together.
For some people there is a honeymoon stage though and that's typically several months stopping at around 2-6.
You can not have a honeymoon stage and still do all of those things - texting often, passionate sex, and seeing each other often. As long as it continues and things are not always perfect then it isn't a honeymoon stage it's just a healthy relationship.

it depends on the couples chemistry together, for me its still going and I've been with my boyfriend for 3 and a half years. we never argue or shout, we talk things out calmy if we disagree and we tell each other we love each other daily and mean it, its not one person always saying it or feeling obligated to say it we will say it on a whim or be laughing about something together and say it.

with previous boyfriends its lasts from 2 months to about 5-6 maximum because we would argue or just get bored of eachother

I actually varies from person to person. Many studies have shown, that in most cases the walls come down after 4 years of knowing someone. They stop monitoring their behavior and stop going out of their way to please/engage their partners.

It all depends on how much you love & care for each other and ofcourse since we aren't in Adam & Eve stage financial resources matter depending on where we live :) I won't call it a fantasy or myth but it's a 2 way street :)
