I think you should ask more about the culture than just religion because then you might get more accurate answers.

In my experience, what we might find offensive and controlling, they can view as love.

(constantly checking on you, not wanting you to talk to any males, blah blah)

They would also probably try to introduce you to their parents, and also at some point try to convert you if they are a serious Muslim because I think it's a part of their duty as a husband. Apparently, Muslim can only date with the purpose of marriage.
