You want to know why it's mass times the speed of light squared?
It comes from the mathematical equations that govern potential and kinetic energy.
Einstein (and Lorentz) both put forward the idea that the speed of light is the same for all observers, regardless of their frames of reference. This led (again, by math) to the Lorentz contraction. This showed that the mass of an object in motion increases the faster it moves. The relativistic mass = the mass at rest, times the Lorentz correction.(1 over the square root of (1 minus v^2/c^2 ) where v is the velocity and c is the speed of light.
If the velocity is light speed, that term becomes 1/0. As we get closer and closer to light speed, that number approaches infinity.
So what you really want to know is - how is the Lorentz contraction derived from the idea that the speed of light remains constant to all observers. Since that is how the c squared gets into E=m. c^2
If you want to ask this as a different question, I'll try to talk you through it.

Because the scientific observations made of the universe match with E=mc² and not E=mc³. Without going into the specifics which you and most people wouldn't understand anyway, that is the reason.
To the question of could it be because God created it this way? Before I answer that, you need to understand something and that is that "God" is an imaginary thing. There is absolutely no indication whatsoever that such a thing would be part of reality. God is imagined and fictional on the same level as things like leprechauns, fairies, flying rainbow unicorns, Freddy Krueger, Skeletor, Darth Vader, superman, the Hafgufa, goblins, ghost ships, werewolves, cherubs or demons. The only difference between god and those things is that there are still people who believe in God and attribute as yet unexplained features of reality to the agency of this fictional character. There is no reasonable excuse to attribute unexplained and undiscovered occurrences in nature to something somebody made up and has no credible evidence at all to show it even could exist let alone does! So the answer is it is a ridiculous question to ask anyway.
No.
The question to ask to get you to understand this is;
If it was indeed E=MC3, and supposing you also existed in this alternative universe - wouldn't you just be here asking the exact same thing?
"Oh, E=MC3, my god must have done this on purpose!"
You have no other universes to compare to - we have no way of knowing whether physical laws are free to vary from one universe to another, or if this is the /only/ way they are capable of being. Without that hypothetical universe to compare to, you could never be justified in asserting design in physics. Only someone remarkably naive would do so.
If E=MC^2 was any other equation then we wouldn't be here to ask the question. But just because that's the way things are doesn't mean a god made it that way.

Well, if you know the formula to derive "E=MC^2" you would realize it is so brilliant and elegant, it could only come into being if it were in fact Created by an Almighty Being.
Mathematical Elegance is in fact evidence of Special Creation by God, because a "Random Universe" would not be expected to have the properties of Elegance nor Maximization of Attributes. The universe we exist in has ALL attributes maximized, which the probability of that happening by chance is literally ZERO.E=MC2 is because
Energy is Mass multiply whit light speed to the power of two.
This mean any object can become energy if it's moving extremly fast.
More exactly, If those atoms are accelerated in space at the proper velocity of mass, that object is transformed into energy.
The only phenomenon suspected of being able to apply this formula are black holes. They are the only ones that through gravitational attraction manage to oppress and force the light to travel at an even faster speed than normal.
This creates the horizon of events (the black spot of the hole), but all things, even the light continues to travel a certain distance and beyond that horizon, to the singularity, the final and central point of the black hole.
And God create this fascinating fenomen.I'm genuinely not trying to be rude here, but do you know what "E=MC^2" means? Your question seems a bit odd, kind of like asking "Why does 2+2=4 and not 5?", or "Why do things fall when you drop them, instead of floating?". You could argue that God made 2+2=4, of course, it just seems like a strange question to ask.
isn't it more than amusing that out of all the scientists and physicists in recorded history, Einstein was the only one who was told to stop telling God what to do.
let me answer this with a counter question: how many things people originally thought "were created by god" must be proven to have originated by other means than god before you realize that this god thing is probably not right?
