1.4K opinions shared on Religion & Spirituality topic. You want to know why it's mass times the speed of light squared?
It comes from the mathematical equations that govern potential and kinetic energy.
Einstein (and Lorentz) both put forward the idea that the speed of light is the same for all observers, regardless of their frames of reference. This led (again, by math) to the Lorentz contraction. This showed that the mass of an object in motion increases the faster it moves. The relativistic mass = the mass at rest, times the Lorentz correction.(1 over the square root of (1 minus v^2/c^2 ) where v is the velocity and c is the speed of light.
If the velocity is light speed, that term becomes 1/0. As we get closer and closer to light speed, that number approaches infinity.
So what you really want to know is - how is the Lorentz contraction derived from the idea that the speed of light remains constant to all observers. Since that is how the c squared gets into E=m. c^2
If you want to ask this as a different question, I'll try to talk you through it.02 Reply- +1 y
the OP and Countess Sarah don't seem to realize E=MC^2 is true regardless of the number of dimensions in the Universe or Multiverse. In fact it's already been proven that Relativity and the speed of light postulate work equally well regardless of the number of dimensions in the universe.
The c^2 component is actually derivable from Newton's Inverse Squared Law of Forces, which is derivable from the Surface Area of a Sphere's Sector intersecting the second object in the interaction at radius r from the first object in the interaction, etc. This makes sense, because Photons are just carrier particles for the Electromagnetic Force, which is proven because Magnetized Glass polarizes visible light. - +1 y
This means E=mc^2 is true in all causally connected space-time continuums. If there is another entire Multiverse not causally connected to this multiverse (except through the action of God himself anyway,) then E=mc^2 is not required to be true in that other Multiverse.
That is to say, t here can't be a "Cartoon Universe" in this same Multiverse, but there can be a "Cartoon Multiverse" containing Cartoon Universes... if God created such a thing anyway... but even in a Cartoon Multiverse, all of the Universes obey the laws of the Multiverse.

To the question of could it be because God created it this way? Before I answer that, you need to understand something and that is that "God" is an imaginary thing. There is absolutely no indication whatsoever that such a thing would be part of reality. God is imagined and fictional on the same level as things like leprechauns, fairies, flying rainbow unicorns, Freddy Krueger, Skeletor, Darth Vader, superman, the Hafgufa, goblins, ghost ships, werewolves, cherubs or demons. The only difference between god and those things is that there are still people who believe in God and attribute as yet unexplained features of reality to the agency of this fictional character. There is no reasonable excuse to attribute unexplained and undiscovered occurrences in nature to something somebody made up and has no credible evidence at all to show it even could exist let alone does! So the answer is it is a ridiculous question to ask anyway.04 Reply- +1 y
Maybe you are simply misinterpreting God as something that no theologian ever claims? God IS the existence itself, and to take 'him' literally, or to even think of him as a person is extremely childish. The word "God" is just the expression for what cannot be expressed. I fint that scientists are completely missing the point when they are dismantling the existence of God.

Or maybe it's just you that never heard what smart people are actually talking about when they contemplate the idea of God and myths in general. You haven't even tried to understand. When people in the ancient times talked about Gods, they were talking about archetypal phenomena in the nature. Ares represented war, destructiveness and energy, while Athene represented wisdom, rational and clarity. To call them imaginary is to completely miss the point of their "existence". You are ignore the fact that we the humans have communicated in myths and parables from the time that we existed. Same goes for the "One God". It is a personification of the Cosmos itself, if you will. And to "accept God" simply means to see that you or anyone else are not somehow separate from the rest of the existence and to see entire world as one big unity of everything where all matters. But it seems to me that you only think of bearded old man judging us from the clouds.
- +1 y
@amaguqe I understand the use of parables better than most people. Symbolism is a universal language. So no, you are mistaken and you have absolutely no idea what I understand or have contemplated. However, to claim that everything is in fact god because it is all of the same essence is totally ridiculous and exactly the kind of projection of your opinion on what you imagine an imaginary thing to be which I was talking about before. You might as well be burbling and rolling around on the floor.

The question to ask to get you to understand this is;
If it was indeed E=MC3, and supposing you also existed in this alternative universe - wouldn't you just be here asking the exact same thing?
"Oh, E=MC3, my god must have done this on purpose!"
You have no other universes to compare to - we have no way of knowing whether physical laws are free to vary from one universe to another, or if this is the /only/ way they are capable of being. Without that hypothetical universe to compare to, you could never be justified in asserting design in physics. Only someone remarkably naive would do so.09 Reply- +1 y
You're just wrong and ridiculous Sarah. I've told you before the leading expert on String Theory and the Universe theories has said that it cannot exist without being CREATED by a pre-existing Intelligence.
We do know what the possibilities are of other Universes, because all space-time continuums are describable with existing physics, as General Relativity works for any number of dimensions of space and time... that's why it's called "General Relativity" because it is the General Equation for all solutions to space and time. - +1 y
@Wade8888
Then your 'leading expert' is either being taken out of context or they're equally as clueless as you.
Again, you don't have another universe to investigate, so none of what you've said here is true - you do not know that the laws of this universe would necessarily be applicable in another.
Asker+1 yI'm just trying to figure out why E=MC2 and not MC3. I am open to other answers. Or do you suggest I just not even bother thinking about it?
- +1 y
I'm asking why you think E=MC2 is somehow spiritually significant. You ignored my question - If E=MC3, would you not still be here asking the same question?
- +1 y
You're wrong Sarah.
String Theory describes all possible sets of laws as a single predictable system.
The Leading Expert is Dr. Michio Kaku, and he has so much knowledge in the fields of physics that he has top secret clearance on nuclear weapons and other black projects for the government. When they don't know how to do something, they ask him.
he was not taken out of context, he literally said on his Facebook page, "The Multiverse described by String Theory is so perfect that the ONLY way it could come into being is if it were in fact CREATED by a PRE-EXISTING INTELLIGENCE." (Dr. Michio Kaku, Facebook, 2018).
This caused an uproar in the physics community because he previously identified as Agnostic. He has not totally clarified his new position on the topic of God, but he has not at all denied God's existence either.
In one formal debate where he was the moderator and last speaker, he made the claim that both the religious peopel and the atheists were dead wrong. The religious people are wrong because they are just religious, and don't really "know" God. The Atheists are wrong because they are just wrong and ridiculous to think the Universe could come from complete nothingness (a self-contradiction, as Nothing has no creative power).
Nothing{P} cannot exist, so there is no process contained in the set "Nothing{}" which could create anything outside itself. Indeed, the set "Nothing{}" itself cannot exist either, because the label is a self-contradiction too.
So anyway, Dr. Kaku now BELIEVES IN a rudimentary notion of a Monotheistic GOD, he just doesn't believe in man-made doctrine. - +1 y
Sarah, for th erecord, I'm not sure how high Dr. Kaku's I. Q is, but it's probably off MENSA's ability to test, and it's definitely above any other I. Q. test I've ever seen. His I. Q. is testable only in the same way a StarCraft expert's I. Q. would be testable.
Dr. Kaku is probably THE most intelligent human being alive right now, and he's almost certainly THE most educated human being alive right now. - +1 y
For example, the best StarCraft player in the world is a 7th Standard Deviation above average player, this means his I. Q. is approximately 195, where 100 is "average" by definition, and 60 (Africans) is retarded by defintion and 145 is "Genius" by definition. I. Q. above 180 is considered "Super Genius".
So the best StarCraft player in the world has an I. Q. of 195 (Super Genius,) and Dr. Kaku makes him look like a CAVE MAN by comparison. - +1 y
Okay, it's complicated, but ti's related to the definition of the Surface Area of a Sphere, which is related to the Inverse Squared Law of Forces.
Gravity and Mass are not yet fully understood by physicists, but the discovery of the Higgs Boson has helped some.
It is my belief that Mass is an actual dimension of the Universe. I believe, based on visualization and enven divine counsel, that there are 5 space dimensions and 5 time dimensions in this Multiverse, and there are 4 other dimensions, one of which is simply "Mass".
String Theorists currently think there are at LEAST 10 or 11 dimensions in the Universe, and they're still only working with 1 dimensionsal time (in most cases) but some physicists are working on N-dimensional time variants of String Theory too.
But anyway, each "Force Law" seems to be a Dimension in it's own right. - +1 y
@Wade8888
Look - this is easy -
If a physicist believes in a god, fine - They're just wrong on that particular matter.
It's not exactly a new phenomenon - Scientists throughout history, despite their contributions to knowledge, have often had other beliefs that were not so enlightened.
Assuming all that you've said is true - at most all it means is that Dr. Kaku is attempting to shoehorn his religious beliefs into his actual scientific knowledge.
You're basically committing a weird argument from authority fallacy. I'd bet if Kaku said 'There is no god, it's impossible' you wouldn't give a damn what he had to say. You only care because something he apparently said is convenient for you to agree with.
+1 yIf E=MC^2 was any other equation then we wouldn't be here to ask the question. But just because that's the way things are doesn't mean a god made it that way.

Well, if you know the formula to derive "E=MC^2" you would realize it is so brilliant and elegant, it could only come into being if it were in fact Created by an Almighty Being.
Mathematical Elegance is in fact evidence of Special Creation by God, because a "Random Universe" would not be expected to have the properties of Elegance nor Maximization of Attributes. The universe we exist in has ALL attributes maximized, which the probability of that happening by chance is literally ZERO.00 Reply- 560 opinions shared on Religion & Spirituality topic.
+1 yE=MC2 is because
Energy is Mass multiply whit light speed to the power of two.
This mean any object can become energy if it's moving extremly fast.
More exactly, If those atoms are accelerated in space at the proper velocity of mass, that object is transformed into energy.
The only phenomenon suspected of being able to apply this formula are black holes. They are the only ones that through gravitational attraction manage to oppress and force the light to travel at an even faster speed than normal.
This creates the horizon of events (the black spot of the hole), but all things, even the light continues to travel a certain distance and beyond that horizon, to the singularity, the final and central point of the black hole.
And God create this fascinating fenomen.00 Reply I'm genuinely not trying to be rude here, but do you know what "E=MC^2" means? Your question seems a bit odd, kind of like asking "Why does 2+2=4 and not 5?", or "Why do things fall when you drop them, instead of floating?". You could argue that God made 2+2=4, of course, it just seems like a strange question to ask.

How comes almost all great minds like newton, einstein and faraday were atheists then? i mean it's always those that question and reject the god claim who are most successfull.
- +1 y
@genericname85 G0d calls who he will to his good purpose. He is indifferent to their beliefs. And your assertion id factually incorrect unless you prove it.
- +1 y
you can google all the great minds of history yourself and see how many of them were practicing and believing christians. spoiler alert: very few are. einstein and newton were not for example. faraday was practicing christianity, however that says nothing about whether he actually believed it or not, cause that was the normal thing to do at his time.
- +1 y
@genericname85 I do not need to google anything. My faith is what it is. As I said before, G0d calls who he will to his good purpose. He called Donald Trump, the womanizer. G0d does not condition his calling on belief. He uses who and what he shall.
- +1 y
yup i know how faith works. it's "believe". asserting as truth that which is not verifiably true or even that which is verifiably false. faith ignores evidence and reality in favor of a preferred delusion. have fun with that. but people of science typically do not follow that logic. cause they couldn't really do science if they did.
- +1 y
@genericname85 The evidence of a Creator/Designer is all around us. Do you really think everything just "happened"
- +1 y
i see no evidence for creation anywhere. and i am just honest and admit that i don't know what happened in the very beginning and how "everything" came together. why is it easy for you to accept that god "was just always there" but hard to accept that "everything" was just always there? i know however that the bible is wrong about god creating planet earth, and everything on it.
- +1 y
in fact the bible is wrong on most things it states that one can actually go and check, so that's why i don't have faith in the things it states that i can not go and check.
