What do you think about cults?

When I refer to a cult I don't mean a suicide cult I just mean a form of religion with less than 1000 people or lacks a clearly defined structure.

I was involved with a cult when I was a teenager. They had a way of obligating you and keeping you very busy in what would normally be your free time. I've noticed that about other cults also. They seem to keep their members very busy.

When I was in my mid-twenties, I knew some people who were involved with a "psychotherapy" sort of cult. When I would talk to them, I'd ask what they were up to. Most would say just their regular job and being involved with the group. When I'd ask what kind of things they did with the group, they were always vague about it.

One of the things some cults do, if someone leaves the cult, they will avoid socializing with you or shun you altogether. This keeps people "locked in" because they don't want to leave and lose their friends in the cult. And also, they don't want the members to talk to them and have them tell the negative things about it and try to get them to leave also.
