Do we really receive whatever we pray for?

Mark 11:22-26 “Jesus replied to them, “Have faith in God. But then it says in 1 John 5:14-15 “Now this is the confidence we have before Him: Whenever we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears whatever we ask, we know that we have what we have asked Him for.”

What if it isn’t in Gods will for me to have what I prayed for? I feel like Im now maybe in the category of a doubter, as it says in

James 1:6-8 “But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.”

I don’t think I doubt but Im just confused here. Can anyone share some helpful insight? Thank you, God bless.

Thanks everyone for your replies and insight. I understand that we in fact don’t receive whatever we pray for as it says in Mark 11 and 1John 5. And that our prayers have to be aligned with His will for our lives. I now have to somehow learn to accept that my prayers may be denied, but without doubting when I pray. I feel like this is gonna be a challenge, hopefully God blesses me with the wisdom to do this successfully. Thank you guys. God bless you all🙏🏾

If it is God’s will for you to have something, you can confidently trust that it is already yours. But sometimes God says “No” to the things we pray for, not because we don’t deserve it or we did something wrong, but because it’s just not what God wants for us or isn’t a part of his plan.
I once prayed to God for a lady involved in a car accident not to die, but she still died. Did God answer my prayer? Yes, it just wasn’t the answer I wanted, and the truth is that it was her time to go. God’s desire was to bring her home, while mine was for her to stay.
I prayed numerous times for God to bring me a husband, and I’m still single. Does that mean I’m not worthy of a husband? No, it’s just not my time to be married, assuming that it is God’s will that I will be married one day.

If the things that we pray for are in line with what God desires, we can rest assured that we will receive them.

I see. And thats what I was thinking but I didn’t want it to be true. We actually don’t receive whatever it is we pray for, even if it is something that is a pure hearted request like yours. God says “You ask and dont receive because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your evil desires.”

But why should we only pray for the things that are in His will, if His will is already going to happen weather we pray or not?

I understand not receiving because of wrong motives. Imagine what the world would be like if God answered everyones evil requests. Praying is completely pointless.

The main reason it's pointless of course is because religion is all nonsense but even if you believe that its real, it still makes no sense at all to pray. You have all been told many times that God has a divine plan so what you want simply doesn't matter, it was either always in the plan or it's not in the plan.

Thats not what I said. Of course there's consequence for ignoring His will. And people do have a choice. But you live by His will every day without even knowing it. Some things you abide to, some things you dont. When you steal, you go to jail (consequence) when you have pre marital sex, you lose your exclusive value to your future partner in life (consequence) when you get really drunk, you lose self control and do things you regret (consequence) You have the choice to do these things or not

The only will that has the consequence of being sent to eternal death/fire/hell for you ignoring it, is the will for everyone to come to the Truth of Christ. The "anyone" in the context of Mark 11 is believers. Believers are those who love God with all, and their neighbors as themselves. If one love God with all, that person's prayers will conform to God's will. John is clarifying that in 1 John 5.

I heard from someone who experienced a spiritual phenomenon that said. One of the worst things about people who end up in hell is that, not only are they watching everyone else suffer who thought it was a lie. But another part of the suffering is seeing in your life allll the times God saved you from something horrible, and seeing allll the times God was actually there for you and how good to you he Truly was even though you didn’t believe in Him.
