I sort of have the same perspective. Eating of the tree of knowledge-pushed God to hide the other tree... the tree of life. Because if we knew knowledge and had eternal life as well... there would be a good chance that we would try to be like God. Learn all and live forever.

Not the same in every book I've read though... depends on which translation and so on... but that one was my favorite. The Tree of Knowledge made them aware that they were naked... interesting thought, right? We're made to be naked in a tropical climate... but moving into a snow-filled region... cutting the skin off animals is something I've only seen a hermit crab come close to other than us. Aware that we're naked and shouldn't be conflated with some fear of showing our genitals... but think of it as becoming aware that we can go out in the cold with a coat on or better off going into battle with armor on... or into space with a space suit on. A good lie has some truth mixed in it. Even if what he said was ultimately the truth, it was still sinful temptation to disobey God. The nature of the act is still bad. It’s a traditional Catholic response (I think). Traditional Catholicism makes a whole lot more sense than American Protestant Christianity when you study the ancient teachings.

I hate how people get hung up on that truth/lie part of this story, which I did in the past I admit. Also, even if Adam and Eve ate fruit from the Tree of Life, God could take away their immortality if he wanted to, because he’s God and can do anything. Or he could stop them before that (which he did). It’s not like Adam and Eve could pose a threat to him. Even if they tried to be God-like it would only be because he would have allowed it, like how he allows the Devil to do his thing.

The Devil was making Christ think about his faith. That is the key attribute of the Light Bringer, Prometheus, he wants people to think, not just believe. He wanted Christ to question WHY he was suffering when he, Christ, could end that suffering at any point.

The devil did cause God to question Job but it was God who killed Job's family just to make a point. Job's life may have been repaired by God, but what about those who had died?

Although they died spiritually and began their inevitable decay, the serpent did not technically lie in that they did not physically die that day, which is apparently what Eve thought. Still, manipulation does not always require a lie. A deceptively framed outline works, too. "You will be like God, knowing good from evil." was spoked as though it was a good thing for them, when clearly in the story it was a disaster for them to know evil and thus be condemned to death, harsh toil, and to be denied the Tree of Life.
