Why does anything matter to you? Is it self interest?

I don't know for example, I hate people seeing people feeling bad it really gets under my skin, I feel it viscerally. Different than “ppl pleasing” or wanting to be seen a certain way, I care even if I dislike someone or have nothing to do with them or I can help with no one knowing.. if I can help, I’ll do it. In fact caring or wanting to help others more often than not seems to earn me disdain 😂

However, even if I’m trying to help others it’s starts with the fact I suffer thinking of their suffering, so I guess that in a sense is selfish.

Can be. Also can be for others. It can be for both myself and someone else. Depends on what we are talking about. There is something coming up that might be considered the latter which is both in self interest and for another. I'd say most of what I do is self serving. If you really think about it bet it is true for most things. Of course there are things I do for others and not in my own interest but think that is not as much.

I'd have to really think about this, it's a deep question.

It matters because I am influencing time and space. Ultimately, it matters because I have value as do others?

My current mode is passing along so that others can have a good or better life, that's the concept.

Yes, ultimately it is. I want to build for me, and for my offspring. I'm an empire builder and love to see my ideas come to fruition. And yes, that is selfish, even the desire to help others is ultimately selfish. So make of your life what you will.

for your family is for THEM not selfish. and some people give charity if to poor then not selfish.

2 a tax credit
3 it makes them feel good

A lot of it is. Like my job and my passion is dancing and I love it because it makes me happy. I think most of what we do is just to bring happiness to ourselves or at least try.

My wife always comes before me. The fact that it fits my self interest is secondary to the fact that I made a promise to protect and cherish her always.. I don't break my promises.

i remind you about charity. that means give without exchange. self loss for others. it would be good marketing if atheist would teach give charity but... who can tell others to give? only god.
