No, it's not weird. Life is hard, and everyone wishes they could receive guidance at some point or another. Dreams are mysterious, and strange and novel ideas flow effortlessly through them, so it's very tempting to look for the hidden hand of some divine entity, or the insightful voice of your own subconscious, guiding you towards some profound realization.
Unfortunately, dreams are probably not a insightful as we wish they were. Dreams are often chaotic and completely crazy -- your brain's best attempt at constructing a coherent narrative out of random strings of thought while the parts that keep you grounded in reality are taking an 8-hour break. Dreams can be influenced by your emotional state, and you can extract from them interesting ideas that you might never have thought of otherwise, but if you're looking for real meaning and actual solutions, you're much better off looking when your actually awake and lucid.
We've moved on from the days of Freud and Jung. Dreams are still the subject of much study, but dream interpretation isn't widely practiced in modern psychology. Dreams can be a great topic of conversation with a therapist or psychiatrist, but they'll probably find your interpretation and feelings much more informative than the content of the dreams themselves.
Just beware: online you'll find lots of resources that attempt to explain the meanings behind common dreams, but these are not backed by anything scientific. They're usually a blend of old ideas, new-age spirituality, and whatever personal interpretations the writer came up with. They can be a lot of fun to read, but you shouldn't take them too seriously.
not weird very common to look for what is in your mind under the surface
It's probably a good idea. Dreams are interesting.
