The number 7 is hard wired into people's brains. Ask them to quicky think of a number and it's nearly aways 7. Surveys show it's overwhelmingly our favourite number.

The 7 seas, 7 colours of the rainbow, 7 wonders of the world, 7 hills of Rome, 7 deadly sins, 7 days, seven heaven, God rested on 7, opposite numbers on a die, the 7 classical planets and their days of the week. 7 is also the number of things most people can naturally store in their brain at speed, and it's thought this last fact is why different cultures all give 7 mystical properties.
