Does anyone here pray to a deity and what do you pray for?

I’m European and the concept of praying is alien here but almost every American I’ve come across mentions prayers. I just don’t get it. Can someone be kind to explain this to me?

You are a European and the concept of praying is alien in Europe? Oh Italy, Spain, Poland, Greece, Southern Germany, even France, it’s fairly much a part of life. Europe is a melting pot of Catholics, Orthodox, Methodists, Protestants, Hindus, Muslims, etc.

Hindus and Muslims pray but they’re not Europeans are they? Christians are a very small minority, mostly octogenarians. But anyway, I’m talking about situations where people ask you to say a prayer for them which is part of everyday life in America but literally unheard of in Europe

Erm they live in Europe, they are Europeans. You never been to Italy, Spain, Poland, Greece, hugely religious, try going on a saints day, they have loads throughout the year.

Prayer is the next best thing to doing nothing. It makes the person doing the praying feel like they are helping when they are not. If they want to actually help they could actually do something besides praying.
