Do you celebrate Halloween despite your religious upbringing?

I know a lot of people may stray away from their religious backgrounds or keep their beliefs as an adult. I had a Jehovah witness tell me I won’t make it in heaven if I celebrate today.

I was raised Catholic. All Hallows' Eve, also known as Halloween, is a Christian holiday that marks the beginning of Allhallowtide, a three-day period of remembering and celebrating those who have passed before us and now live on in the afterlife. The day after Halloween is All Saints Day.

People who think that Halloween is Satanic are uneducated Puritans.

Halloween/Samhain traditions pre date Christianity. They have nothing to do with Satan. According to Christians, anything that isn't Christian is pagan and, naturally, pagan equates to Satan because that's all Christians can comprehend. If Halloween annoys those kinds of Christians, good.

Samhain or Sauin is a Gaelic festival on 1 November marking the end of the harvest season and beginning of winter or "darker half" of the year. It is also the Irish language name for November. Celebrations begin on the evening of 31 October, since the Celtic day began and ended at sunset.
It was believed that at this time the veil between this world and the spirit world was at its thinnest – allowing the spirits of the dead to pass through and mingle with the living.

In that sense Halloween is similar to Latin-American Dia de los Muertos celebrations that combine Catholicism with ancient Aztec, Mayan, and Olmec traditions.

Heck, even Christmas is a combination of Christian and pagan traditions.

I'm proud of my Irish roots and fond of ancient Celtic customs. So I'm glad that some of them have been preserved with Halloween.

As to the Witnesses, they say that only 144,000 people will make it to heaven, meaning your odds are pretty miserable; about 1 in 55,555. Except it's even worse than that, because that's not just from the people alive TODAY, but from all those who EVER lived, which (depending on where you draw the line of what constitutes "human") is about 100 billion. That gives you odds of almost one in a million. But even that isn't all of it, because it's also all the humans that ever will live, which could be an impossibly high number.

So AT BEST, you're looking at winning-the-lottery odds, and that's with such stupidies as not voting, not celebrating birthdays, and trying to please a God you're referring to by the wrong name.

Eh, not really. I'm Jewish, born and raised, and I never did Halloween as a kid. I went trick or treating for the first time at 17 with a group of friends. It was fun, dressing up was fun, but I wasn't really into it. I'm still not, so I don't celebrate it.

The only thing I'd ever do is give out candy, if I'm home, because it's nice to see all the kids in their costumes. And no one in my neighborhood or surrounding neighborhoods really pass out candy anymore, so I kind of feel bad for kids and parents

Halloween is a Christian holiday part of ALLHOWTIDE which includes all Hallows Eve or Halloween which is the eve before All Saints day and all souls day. It's a regional cultural event native to Scotland and Ireland that was exported to America.

Halloween is not the "celebration" at all. It's actually the day of All Saints (which is the day after) that is the celebration, as you've "survived" Halloween.
