Is Santa Claus like a god for kids?

Parents tell their kids "be good or else Santa Claus won't bring you Christmas presents". When you get older you are told "be good or God will send you to hell when you die". Both are old guys with white beards, both fly around in the sky, both have magical powers and are immortal, and nobody has ever actually seen either one of them. Seems pretty similar, don't you think?

no, at least where I am from, we don't use it that way... it's a magical part of childhood... not a god, not a prize or punishment... just magical moments during Christmas...
