Do you believe the first level of hell consists of no fire, but only eternal separation from God?

According to Dante Alighieri’s book Inferno, it’s the first level.

I believe the entire thing is a myth designed to control behavior. But more importantly, I still believe there's got to be a higher power in the Cosmos, but I don't ascribe human failings to it. The idea that the creator of all there that exists is a vengeful, hateful force who created other life for the express purpose of worshipping just enough not to be separated or eternally bathed in torment, is ridiculous to me.

Also, according to virtually every "authority" on scripture, if you were separated from God, which I'm taking to mean the Holy Spirit, you would have no conscious recollection of anything at all. I realize authors in the past have described this as a state of existence where souls wander aimlessly and are essentially zombies. Well, if that's true, and you have neither soul nor spirit, you're dead.

But as usual, religions ALWAYS make for a place that is WORSE than death for those who disobey or do not believe. You don't just die, you suffer endlessly. Fascinating means of control, I think.

I believe if there's a first level of hell, it would be called reflecting. Constant reminders of every aspect you fucked up, repeatedly playing all around, everywhere you look. As realizations like there's no nutrition nor sleep, you starve while any reasonable thought process slowly becomes madness. Noone is around, yet everything is pitch black at this point.

While Dante’s Journey in its entirety is heavily inspired and accepted as specifically catholic doctrine, this presentation of damnation is not accurate to what christians globally say it is.
