How should Christians really understand Matthew 6:33 today?

The bible says God wants you to seek first the kingdom of God, which means, God wants you to make love, kindness, charity, virtue, and divine beauty, your highest dream, your greatest joy, and your deepest desire.

God will not punish you for liking cats and ice cream, as long as you love God more than you love cats and ice cream. You can still desire marriage and you can still want a big beautiful home. God just wants you to desire his virtue and love more than you desire the house and the date and the road trip and the cat and the ice cream and the marriage.
