Search Results: present value

My 2 year relationship ended and I have made a list of things I would like/"need" to have in a partner in the future. I would like to get some objective opinions to make sure I'm not being completely unrealistic/know what one can/should expect. Of course I know literally checking things off a list when dating would be weird and I suppose things could maybe still be fine if they didn't fit one or two of these points, but these are the things I feel are most important to me in a romantic relationship.

What I want/need/should look for:

Someone who is fond of physical affection/touchy like I am and likes to cuddle a lot.

Someone who is willing to try new stuff even if we might not like all the same things.

(Preferably we should have a fair amount of common/overlapping interests and at the very least the same/similar/compatible sense of humor tho).

Someone who will always be there to listen/support me when I need it.

Someone who will want the best for me and encourage me to follow my passions.

Someone who is as involved, invested and committed to the relationship as I am (and in turn is also mentally present in our day-to-day interactions).

Someone who likes to spend a lot/similar amount of time together.

Someone who is honest and who will allow open communication in the relationship.

Someone who has similar core values as I have.

Materialism dictates that we place sentimental value on objects, projecting our thoughts and feelings into an inanimate shell to form representation. Ex’s hold that special place in our lives, chosen but not forgotten, lovers once lost. Is it unhealthy to hold onto our pasts? Or do fond memories serve a purpose in the present?

Personally, I’ve only kept 1 item from 2 of my ex’s. I have the favourite book of my most recent ex (gifted to me), and a jacket (his embroidered jacket) from my first and so far only love. For me these items bring great comfort because I’ve discarded all other traces of my ex’s down to every last photograph. It’s kind of like I’m holding onto the idea of who the person was, the object is an imprint of who they were when I knew them... because now they’re just a stranger.

Obviously I’m romanticising the crap out of this, I’m just feeling moody tonight and figured I’d throw it out there.
