27F, I hate to describe this as daddy issues. For the most part, my dad and I have gotten along. My parents divorced when I was 8, after that he started to take his frustrations out on me (mom cheated). At around 23 I got tired of it, I moved out of state to live w my gma at 13 but we talked over phone. I pretty much said fuck him and didn’t talk to him for three years. My parents are still good friends, my mom has been with the same guy and my dad is single I think.

For over a year, my dad and I rekindled. He seemed to change with me, I think he knows I’m not taking that anymore and we never argue. But I’m irritated when he calls too often. My mom can call me whenever (I have resentment towards her too) and I have no prob. My dad calls too frequently (more than once a week) and I get irritated.

He just annoys me, he asks me the same questions frequently and I put him in his place lol. I know he remembers, my mom blames it on him not knowing what to say to me. My dad doesn’t have a good relationship with his family, everyone always makes the excuse that I’m all he has. My moms family is shit too but I guess she has a boyfriend and 2 other kids.

What frustrates me is that really isn’t my fault, I always think what if I was married or had kids. I would have to coddle and make time for my dad then too? I’m single, no friends and don’t feel like I need to talk to my parents that often.

TL;DR: am I being too harsh with my dads need to talk with me often?

It seems to me like a lot of people have so many issues that they dump on others, when they go out on dates... such as family/friend/ex/life drama, mental health issues, money issues, and so many more issues a person can have. I understand having problems you need help to solve, or needing someone to vent to. I’m not a counselor, therapist, or mental health coach. I want people I’m interested in or who are my friends to feel comfortable with talking to me, but I don’t want to feel like I’m just listening to your issues. For heaven’s sake if we’re on a date, you want to impress the person! Show them the best sides of you. I like to think of it almost like a job interview... They’re trying to see how compatible you are with their personality, likes, and dislikes.

PLEASE don’t go out on dates with people if you aren’t emotionally ready/able to and actually try to have a good time with the person. Go on dates because you are comfortable being in your own skin, and genuinely READY for a relationship, but not forcing/rushing anything.

I’m not a jerky person and I understand when you need to vent to someone. I don’t mind listening to a few minutes here and there, but please keep in mind that everyone has their own issues to solve/work out and I don’t always have the time nor the patience to listen to it.

not that typical break but simply having some phases when you feel like you are crazy about the person, you love him/her so much and he/she is so amazing and then next moment you'll be like not in a mood of being a girlfriend/ boyfriend and just want me time and friends time and don't want to interact much with your partner but with everyone and enjoy without him/her. just wanna know if its normal or not. it happens with me often ( sometimes i feel like its kinda my coping mechanism to avoid getting upset by him because i know that at this moment he will mess things up)
