I would prefer British people in particular to answer, but anyone can share their thoughts.

So as some of you might know, Scotland had an independence referendum on September 18th 2014 that decided whether they wanted to vote YES to leave the UK and have Scotland be it's own independent country or vote NO to stay in the UK and continue to work together as a united nation.

Scotland's political parties had their own viewpoints on independence:

Scottish National Party (SNP) - YES
Scottish Green Party - YES
Scottish Labour - NO
Scottish Conservatives - NO
Scottish Liberal Democrats - NO

The YES campaign argued that Scotland had enough money to sustain itself into a successfully prosperous nation and that the UK government has had a negative impact to Scotland for the last few decades.

The NO campaign argued that Scotland could never support itself due to the SNP's socialist and communistic ideals and that there was no thought out plan on what currency Scotland would use as it would have to leave the current British Pound Sterling.

No matter what, both sides promised that this was a once in a generation opportunity and that the result must be respected.

The referendum result:
YES = 45%
NO = 55%

Therefore, Scotland stayed in the UK.

However, Nicola Sturgeon of the SNP (Current leader of Scotland) had recently called plans for a second independence referendum which was denied by the UK PM Theresa May.

This caused joy amongst the YES campaign and outrage towards the NO campaign as it was a disrespect to democracy.

There had been many talks on Scotland having another independence referendum since the UK decided to leave the EU and supposed broken promises the UK government made to Scotland if it only voted to stay in the UK.
