One thing about a more secular society is people are more likely to face shame as societal punishment vs. actual guilt.

Guilt is internal. It’s actually a much more powerful psychological motivator to make right or wrong decisions. Upbringing, communities and religious influences can directly impact guilt.

But some people are sociopaths/psychopaths and don’t feel any guilt. Hence they only worry about their reputation being harmed vs. whether or not they actually harmed someone.

Anyway I’m noticing this bizarre trend in modern society where we have become more “tolerant” of certain deviations but far less forgiving others. Less forgiveness too. Ironically I think this is driving some people to actually get worse on actions that harm others and themselves.

I'm curious if you think it's right/fair for the government to cancel student loan debt. Some of the considerations are millions of people have paid their debt off themselves and worked in jobs they didn't like to earn student loan forgiveness. So they will have done that for nothing. Also what happens in the future? This current generation gets forgiven then it just goes back to normal?

Many call it a cheap political ploy to farm votes and favor from young people.

What are y'all's thoughts and why?

He insults people a lot.

He does not forgive anyone he thinks wronged him.

Every day, the tension in our household grows as my stepdad (50m) lashes out at my (23m) younger brother (12m), accusing him of racism while unknowingly imparting these beliefs himself. His discriminatory comments and refusal to acknowledge Palestine underscore a divisive worldview that clashes with my mom's (48f) conservative but more moderate stance.

My stepdad's shift from endorsing toxic masculinity to adopting a more cowardly demeanor has strained our family further. Dishonesty about his work situation contributes to our financial struggles, with my mom being the primary breadwinner while he refuses unemployment benefits.

Homeschooling has uncovered fabricated stories about bullying, exposing my brother's use of racist language influenced by my stepdad. The impact on his social interactions is alarming, as he echoes derogatory terms in gaming environments.

The drastic shift in my parents' political and religious affiliations from Obama Democrats and Catholics to hardcore Christian values post-2015 has intensified the family discord. My stepdad's refusal to believe in forgiveness and condemnation of my brother's forgiving nature further deepens the ideological divide.

Reflecting on the simpler times of 2010-2012 when my parents shared similar values, I can't help but question whether love can withstand such stark differences. The strain caused by opposing beliefs raises concerns about the feasibility of a lasting and harmonious relationship between individuals with fundamentally different worldviews.
