A Louisiana couple recently had a baby after the mother was rushed to the hospital with stomach pain. The mother had no clue she was pregnant and the couple assumed she had kidney stones. When the doctor asked her to lie on her back for an examination her water broke.

“I never felt her move during the pregnancy. I never had cravings, I never had morning sickness,” Grace Mawn said.

I've been curious about that for a while, and I have no clue why the younger generation seem to hate to verbally talk on the phone, and greatly prefer to use text and messaging services almost exclusively, or at least disproportionately so.

I've especially noticed that whenever I call my patients. Most of my older patients don't even know how to text. Those who do, specifically prefer to talking over the phone over texting. As for millennial and younger patients, they almost exclusively prefer texting. I would call one of them, leave a voice message asking for them to return my call, only to get a response via text shortly after. I thought, maybe some of them don't answer and prefer to text because they're at work/class, or want to maintain their privacy (not wanting to be overheard over the phone). That is understandable, but that's the case literally any time, and any day!

Personally, I don't mind it very much. I'm not particularly partial to speaking or texting. I am hoping that someone might have a better understanding as to why things are the way they are. I am curious.
