Veganism just means "no consumption of animal products". This includes beef, pork, chicken, eggs, milk, yogurt, cheese, fish, sea creatures, leather, some make-up that has been tested on lab animals, etc. The main purpose of veganism is to live without supporting animal product manufacturers or industries that make money using animals. It is tied with concerns about animal cruelty and environmentalism. It is NOT tied with human health.

It is possible to be an unhealthy vegan. The vegan may eat nothing but soda and cruelty-free hydrogenated potato chips and carbonated, sweetened beverages.

It is also possible to be forced to be vegan. Vegan adults may force their own pets and children to avoid all animal products, regardless of the health risks associated with veganism for carnivorous pets and children who need their mother's milk. Even if a child drinks solely his/her mother's milk, that's not veganism. The mother's milk comes from a human, and a human biologically is an animal. Therefore, young children who depend on their mother's milk cannot be vegan and healthy at the same time.

On the food side, I suppose veganism is cheaper than non-veganism. I can walk in a Dollar Tree store and find rice, dried beans, canned vegetables, and frozen vegetables. Also, in a general supermarket, I can usually buy vegetables in greater quantities than fruits or meats, because they are fairly light-weight. However, when eggs are on sale for $0.50/dozen, I believe that all dietary restrictions are just baloney. I believe eggs are a good source of protein and fat, and they are an easy way to get fat into the diet in American society. I personally prefer to buy what's on sale, which may be eggs (animal product rich in fat and protein) or legumes (plant product rich in fat and protein).
