I was talking to someone like that, and he seemed very wistful of his ex who has a great career in entertainment, and is married with kids. He only broke up with her decades ago because they were young and unsure. He doesn’t settle because his standards seem really high.
Basically you need to be model beautiful, highly career oriented, a devoted wife and mother, and a massive bonus if you’re self made in business. On top of that, you need to be fit, outgoing, outdoorsy, and can handle hands-on diy things men can, but be very feminine at the same time.

He seems totally unattainable, and my self esteem plummets every time I realize this.

I work with a married man and the way he’s been acting recently makes me uncomfortable. I’ve known him for almost 3 years, but only started working closely with him a few months ago. I always liked him as a person, so I’m confused. We’ve had these team building things lately and alcohol was involved. Basically I’ve had to go out to dinner with my coworkers every night this week. Last night it was okay. We were talking about his wife and kids, and he was telling me cool stories about them. Then tonight we were out to dinner and he overheard me talking about dating with another coworker and somehow the conversation shifted to just me and him and he was asking me all these in depth questions about whether or not I’m dating anyone, what kind of food I like, what I like to do.. then he would be like, “so would you date a guy that liked to do sports even though you don’t?” And stuff. And this went on and on throughout the night.

Is he flirting or does it sound like just friendliness?
