Is it all down to parents to ensure that children are kept safe online or do sites such as this also have a moral/social responsibility? Is there any real need for adults to be private messaging with children? Is there any question or concern of a minor that shouldn't be able to be answered in the public forum without taking it to PM?

I rarely ask questions on this site. Mostly because I often get few responses back when I actually need help and mountains of answers back when I ask a trivial question like what's your favorite band. The answers I do get back usually focus in on one aspect of the problem or ignore the problem altogether.

It often feels like people are just trying to get points instead of actually trying to help. Adding a poll often makes things worse because people just pick an answer (usually the cop out answer that's the last option just to see other people's choice) and give no details about why they picked that choice. Am I asking questions wrong? Are my questions just to hard to answer? How often do you get useful advice on a "serious" question? And how can I craft questions so that I'm actually getting helpful advice.
