I periodically see news articles about genius children, some with ages in the single digits, who graduate from high school early.

Usually, graduation from high school is a right of passage into adulthood. But the vast majority of high school graduates are around the age of majority anyways.

I just feel a genius 8 year old may be intelligent academically, but social and emotional maturity develops with age. I still wouldn't expect an 8 year old to be allowed to drive, consent to sexual activity or marriage, or be allowed to sign a binding contract. I still wouldn't allow an 8 year old to attend classes with adults in college or be a roommate to an adult. It doesn't seem right.

So then, what would an 8 year old high school graduate do with his time then?

So when I was in 6th grade, a girl I had a crush on gave me a note in the hallway and quickly walked away. It was the classic "do you like me?" note with boxes to check for yes and no. I checked yes, and gave it back to her. From then until the end of middle school, we were together. We'd sit next to each other in class, hold hands at lunch, and hug before we left school every day.

Problem was, as much as I liked her, I was terrified of girls at the same time. Every time she told me she wanted to kiss or to go out on a real date, I would clam up and not be able to answer or look her in the eye. From an outside perspective I'm sure that sounds adorable, but in hindsight I can only think "Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!" Throughout middle school, I started feeling more and more guilty for not being able to give her what she wanted, even though she was very patient and understanding with me. Honestly, that probably just made me feel even more guilty.

When it came time for the end of middle school we ended up being assigned to different high schools, and at a low point, I decided that was when I would break up with her, thinking she'd be happier with someone who actually had the guts to kiss her. My dumb 11 year old ass told her it was because we were going to different schools, thinking for some reason that it would spare her feelings. I immediately regretted it and have ever since, but I stuck with my decision and avoided her and any eye contact with her for the last few days of the school year, and ignored her when she wanted to talk to me. I never saw her again after that.

Fast forward 14 years, and I'm still not over what I did to her, even though it was just some silly middle school breakup. I almost never remember my dreams, but among the ones I do remember about half of them are about me meeting her by chance and apologizing to her.

My girls a senior in high school ok? When we first got together she told me 1 night that she's slapped a few guys for some different reasons. I didn't say anything about it but I was thinking😏😏that won't be me cuz I'll block her hand if she tries. Now I'm not talking about hitting back ok? Well it's happened TWICE now at her house after school and yesterday it was in the kitchen. It's only half serious tho. I admit I'm a smartass sometimes but still wtf😕Well we were in the kitchen and I said something smartass and she's all uhhhh😮😮😮faced me and fr she's got a cute face so my mouth hung down and I froze. She goes whoooop-her right hand flips outside and hangs way tf out and I'm 😨😨😨cuz of how fast her hand is n how far she hangs it out. I can't block that😬can't even move! So I look at her face n my mouth falls open frozen. I got my face turned slapped easily. I was mad asf and left. I went by this karate class place n was looking in thinking about taking it so I can block her hand😗. But I left and walked away deciding not to because I didn't see any cute brunette chicks like her in there, I mean they dunno her... they'd get slapped easy asf by her too😒Should I admit to her I went by there and why and just say sorry for how I was?
