It's hard to say for sure without knowing her tone, but it doesn't sound super sarcastic to me. A few possibilities:
- She could genuinely be impressed that you worked your way up to assistant manager in a few years, even if it wasn't your dream job. That shows growth and responsibility.
- She may also be surprised in a good way to see you working steady and supporting yourself after school, since you said you were lazy back then.
- As a teacher, she wants to build up her students. So even a small success, she'd likely respond positively to show support.
- "Oh wow" could just be a casual surprised reaction without any sarcasm meant.
I wouldn't automatically read it as sarcasm since she took the time to reach out and ask how you're doing. Teachers see a lot of students, so she may really be interested in your progress.
Unless her other responses seem snide, I'd give her the benefit of the doubt that she was genuinely acknowledging your work experience after school. Don't overthink it too much, man!
i reached out to her as my depression was bad
Ah man, that makes sense you reached out when your depression was bad. That stuff can really mess with your head and make you overthink small stuff.
It was probably really good that you reached out to your teacher though. Sometimes talking to someone from the past who knew you before can help remind you of how far you've come. Even if she didn't say much, just catching up probably lifted your mood a bit.
I wouldn't worry about if she meant anything sarcastic. She took the time to chat with a former student, so I'm sure she was being genuine. When your depression's acting up, everything can feel off. But it doesn't sound like she was trying to be mean or anything.
Next time you're feeling down, maybe try reaching out to friends who can help cheer you up instead of going down the Google hole trying to analyze small talk haha. I'm sure your teacher was just happy to hear from you and that you're doing okay now overall. Keep your head up man!
No she wasn’t maybe she just didn’t know what to say…. teachers aren’t educated in social studies therefore they don’t all behave in ways we can fully comprehend at times and this is one of those times since she could have elaborated but couldn’t be bothered or was busy.
i just found it funny.
i have heard of that its funny what some teachers are not educated on.
No, just surprised
