I have adhd, and from elementary school on to my freshman year of high school, I struggled greatly. Mostly due to either laziness, or lack of paying attention.
Medications for adhd weren't too plentiful, and I lacked interest enough to listen in class and put in effort outside of class. In my freshman year, I did very poorly, with a 1.84 GPA, and I failed history class, so I took a 10 day summer school class to makeup for it. In that, I did quite well, getting a 95, and due to my hard work, I was allowed the privilege of going home after 9 days, instead of 10, since I completed my work.
From there on, I did very well. My lowest grade in my sophomore year was a 91. I took college prep level classes only, I never took honors classes, but my mind seemed to work quite well as far as memory. I remember going to chemistry class during lunch to do an electricity project to makeup for the day that I was sick.
Of the 7 people who were supposed to be there during lunch, only me and my friend Richard, came. We tested a parallel circuit vs a series circuit, with a co-ed teacher supervising our work. I enjoyed it, seeing those lights shine so bright when we put the parallel circuit together was very satisfying.
On the PSAT on my freshman year, i did terrible, scoring in the bottom 25%. However, subsequent tests showed that my learning skills were above my grade level. I made the honor roll all 4 quarters in my sophomore year, 3 times my junior year as well as distinguished honors once.
I achieved the distinguished honor roll twice on my senior year, and honor roll twice. I finished high school with a 3.74 GPA. In college, I struggled a bit, but still managed a fair 3.54 GPA.
I took an off year, and did online courses during downtime I had during work. The online classes were sometimes a bit hard to keep track of, and I struggled a lot with my civil law classes. I still managed to get a 3.23 GPA. It seems that I have a more specialized way of learning.
There's no such thing as ADD (or ADHD as it's now more commonly called). That's just a label that is used to justify the drugging of children in order to make them more compliant. Children have trouble "behaving" in class precisely because it isn't natural for us to just sit still for hours on end while some idiot up the front waffles on and on about crap that doesn't even matter half the time. It's BORING!
I hated school from day one. I just didn't want to be there. My grades were good enough for me to pass through the years without being held back, but I'd never want to do anything like it ever again. I learnt far more on my own at home than I ever did in class.

Underwhelming. I was too smart for my own good. So i never did the homework, but i aced all my tests. Making me a solid ‘C’ student. When i finally bumped up against a subject that didn’t come easily and a teacher who expected me to do the work, i ended up dropping the class. Not my finest moment! Ell oh ell!
I graduated with honors and I have three learning disabilities. Autism, attention deficit disorder and dyslexia.
My biggest challenge was the social aspect. The work was fine, I'm not some super genius who can remember things with a casual glance but I could still study just like anyone else 🤷
As for the honor roll in the high school I went to, it required that all grades be at least a 90. And to get distinguished honors, they all had to be at, or above a 95
So to colleges a college prep course would instead be considered an honors course relative to other schools just because of the caliber and reputation of my school.
I can't say that I know, it was Danbury high school in Connecticut.
I didn't really put a ton of extra effort in when it came to studying, the correct answers just came to me when the tests were placed in front of me, and I got my projects done quickly. That's why I did well
In college, I went to Naugatuck community College, the Danbury campus. I studied a good bit there, and I went to the tutoring center to help me with stats & data equations.
I credit those decisions a lot with why I was able to do well there
Actually, in Elementary school and junior high school I did all right, but was better known for being well behaved then for my academic performance. Not that my academics were bad, but pretty much that they were unremarkable.
However, when I got to high school and college - both of which I loved - I took off like a rocket. In many ways, my high school and college years were among the best of my life and I generally got all A's. Ultimately graduating from college summa cum laude. There being one exception - an exception that stands true to this day.
My math scores - though ironically not my science scores - were awful. I passed my math courses, but it was by the skin of my teeth. As my high school adviser told me after reviewing my ACT scores, "You look like a genius - until you get to your math score. You'll never be a math major, that's for sure."
Suffice to say, I sleep with a calculator - I am not a tech guy either, that's for sure - under my pillow.
learning about life though... and people, myself... and my place in this world, that was the struggle and the challenge, but also one I did go head on and through
Loved HS. Mixed among all groups. Popular. Did just enif to keep everyone quiet. Recommend for AP courses but refused. Rather coast. Barely attended. When there intoxicated or for some girl.
